Has anyone ever used immodium to withdraw from opiates, specifically poppy seed tea? I am going to run out soon and would really like to quit, how many immodiums do I need to take to ward of withdrawal symptoms? I still poop daily while using opiates so I'm not too worried about getting stopped up for awhile. It started with percocets, about 8 5mg pills a day. Then switched over to poppy seed tea, a fairly small amount compared to most, about a 1 1/2 cup a day and I make it by only filling up a larger water bottle with seeds, unlike most who use a large soda bottle. Any ideas?

I just posted a few threads down on my experience. It all depends on how long and how much you were using. PST has a disgustingly long half life. Within 30 hours of my last dose I was in the fetal position rocking back and forth, sweating, anxiety, inability to sit still,ect...I looked at the clock every 5 minutes wishing for it to end or God take me. The shits for me didn't start until after 48 hours...at that point I loaded up on immodium, 2 every 4 hours. I got 0 sleep the first week. During my last withdrawal I had only been using a pound to a pound and a half of seeds daily for a month. I hope you won't suffer as bad as I did, buthe you may be in for a rough week. Good luck and God bless...you can do it

And if you use enough immodium to cross the blood brain barrier...my guess is your just delaying the inevitable and risk binding your gut up. Unfortunately there is no easy way in my opinion to withdraw. My 1st witdrawal after 36 hour I caved and went to the er. They shot me up with a ton of benzos which had 0 effect and sent me home with a 7 day supply of klonopin. If you can make it to the 3 day mark things will slowly improve.

ajcook - there are several threads on here regarding using Imodium (loperamide) to help with opiate withdrawal.

I have no idea what would be a good starting dose for you, so I recommend starting small. The threads I posted have a huge range of doses, but I would err on the side of caution again, and start low. Good luck and I hope you feel better. A bad as you may feel, it's only going to last for a few days and it will get better. Good luck!

Were you withdrawing from PST? Cause I wouldn't be hanging my hopes on it getting better by day 3 unless you're withdrawing with something like heroin or most pills. I strongly suspect PST withdrawal is going to be less like withdrawing from heroin and more like withdrawing from methadone.

Now, the OP fortunately isn't what id consider all that high a dose of PST, but on the other hand, seed potency can vary.

You'll only really know for sure how bad it's gonna be by doing it. If I were you, id be concerned about the withdrawal lasting a long time, but hoping that the dose was low enough to not be that bad.

If it is that bad though, by which I mean that like methadone the symptoms don't look like they'll be letting up anytime soon. Another option is to taper down slowly. With PST that might be very doable.

Another option albeit a risky one is if it's shaping up to be a long and uncomfortable withdrawal but you still feel getting off cold turkey is what you want, but wish it'd be over quickly (relatively speaking) like heroin withdrawal (most people seem to find a short intense withdrawal more doable than a long protracted but not quite as intense one), you could cautiously try substituting PST entirely for an equivalent dose (the lowest amount that keeps you out of withdrawal ideally) of a short acting single chemical opioid like codeine, oxycodone IR, etc. But since you're on PST i wouldn't be surprised if you don't have a way to do that. It's a risky proposition generally but it's the only way to trade a long, slow withdrawal for an intense but quickly over one.

I'd strongly suggest continuing to read the other threads for more info and ideas. I've used PST before but didn't attempt getting clean from it, I just continued with my addiction and switched to more powerful opioids soon as I got new connections for them. So I never went through a withdrawal from it since other opioids just took over while the PST slowly left my body. I've always heard though that PST withdrawals pretty bad and more like getting off methadone than more common shorter acting stuff.

On the plus side though. I'd happily trade for your position. In my experience even very high PST tolerances are still on the low side of how high and how bad it can get. I'd love to be back at your tolerance again. All things considered it's likely still on the pretty low side. You're smart trying to stop it now.
