Hello,
New guy here. :)

I have come into possession of poppy pods. And after having the pods aged and dried till pale brown, seeds shook out, and harvested, I ground them into a mulch.
I left out the stems, finding them much too hard to cut and grind up.

Normally I use the rule of thumb and steep the tea no higher than 60*C for 30 minutes. (the theory behind this being morphine and codeine break down at higher temps)
However, recently I accidentally let the brew go to a roaring boil for a few minutes.
I thought the batch was ruined, but I continued my brew as normal anyway.

Here's the kicker. =D
After consumption, my high came on faster and felt stronger than ever before.
This was a complete shock to me as I had been taught too high a temp destroyed the opiates present in the pod.

So I put it to you, the community, to experiment for yourself!
I am interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on the subject of Boil VS Steep.
Any personal experiences or explanations would be greatly appreciated as well.

I would like to see if this experience can be confirmed or if my experience was just a variable.
It would be nice to also be able to put the "60*C for 30 min rule of thumb" to bed as well.
Or to simply get a better definition of what we are dealing with in the way of chemistry.

Side Note: Please refrain from any poppy SEED tea related experiences. 8(
I do not have any interest in trying, or hearing about, poppy seed tea.

Well, I've only had PPT a few times myself, but my Dad's who's been doing it for like 40 years always boils the fuck out of them and never complains.. Liquid water can't get much hotter than 100c under normal conditions, which may be enough to break down a small amount of morphine but it's probably more or less negligible, especially when you consider that a rolling boil agitates the plant material somewhat and likely results in a more efficient extraction.

I was a daily pod tea drinker for seven years. I never boiled the water, just steeped in hot water. Sometimes just cold tap water if I was in a rush. Honestly, the water temp didn't seem to make a difference. I might have boiled once or twice, but didn't make a habit of it.

Are they not available anymore or just really expensive? It's been 3 years since I've used.
