hi.

This may be in the wrong section and I'm posting off my phone so apologies for grammar.

i suffer from crippling paranoid thoughts anxiety and depression. I have been on 10 plus ssri pills and had nothing but more issues from them. I live in the UK and my doctor will not give me anything else she just wants me to continue with CBT which isn't helping. I have asked for a benzo to help but been told no which I understand as people abuse them.

i have tried weed but as i like in a country where its unregulated i get more paranoid on it and have no idea what weed im smoking or what strain it is.

my question is what else can i try i take 30mg of codine when i can get my hands on the pills and they are the only thing that make me feel human. I work in a high pressure job and am getting very close to breaking down no one understands. I can't carry on living like this...

i need something to help me unwind and relax what can i do... I have considers suicide on occasions when i get very bad, my doctor doesnt seem to understand how bad it is, i made the mistake of feeling her i abuse codine thinking being honest will help but she thinks ill abuse other drugs now which is now sending me here.

i am drinking a litre of vodka every two days and this is making me feel awful as you can imagine but when drunk its the only thing that can chill me out.

please someone help what can i do

Hi rob,

It's a no no here on BL to go into providing advice on how to acquire drugs from a doctor but if your having suicidal ideation and consuming large quantities of EtOH it's only going to aggravate any depression or anxiety and possibly cause even worse cycling of emotional turmoil. I would suggest that you go to your A&E department I think it's called ( I'm a yank from the states) the next time you start a downward spiral into panic and depression. You should tell them about the severe anxiety and depression but maybe leave out the codeine part if you aren't currently using it. The opioid hysteria is bad right now and lots of people are losing care for political reasons.

The important part is that you stay away from the EtOH and dry out before seeking help. If you have been drinking this much for awhile it might take medical intervention to withdraw off the alcohol. If you begin suffering from DT's it's imperative to seek help for that first as it's dangerous and can cause seizures. As far as the anxiety goes you will have a hard time receiving the proper meds like benzos if you are still drinking as they don't mix and no doctor will stick their neck out for you with a high risk like alcohol and anxiety medication. If you can stay sober for awhile then seek help for the panic /anxiety by going to the A&E department and telling them how terrible you feel, that should help show your current doctor that re assessment might be in order. If she still refuses to treat your problems adequately than another doctor might need to be consulted. I don't think your going to find a magic bullet that will solve your problems in any substance on the street.

Try to be as receptive as possible to the current suggested therapies from your doctor if you want her to consider another type of pharmacotherapy. CBT can be helpful from what I've heard but I also hear you when you say that and SSRI's aren't cutting it.

Best of Luck to you Rob and Welcome to BlueLight!

thanks for your none judgemental reply.

iv not been drinking that long iv only recently started doing this as no drug off a doctor helps.

The sooner that's out of the picture the sooner you would be able to take the proper medications if your doctor decides it's time to give it a try.
If she remains obstinate to trying that approach it might be best to try another doc without a bias against you and benzos.

If the thoughts of suicide start to creep back in or heavy anxiety starts up then a trip to the A&E department might show them that you are serious and / or your symptoms have worsened.
With alcohol in your system the chances are greatly diminished of you receiving a stronger pharmaceutical treatment that might greatly improve your quality of life and eliminate the need for anything off the street or liquor store.

Rob,

i'd advise you to tell your doc about how difficult your anxiety issues are and ask him to refer you to a psychiatrist/psychotherapist.

Drinking on the regular will only quench your anxiety for so long and then lead to more depression and possible addiction.

Sorry you are going through a tough time of it; at work and in life atm.

If you can/have sick leave available to you, take it off. Garner some time to spend on yourself and what you need to do, to feel grounded, rested and healthy again. You need to concentrate on sleep and nutrition, if you can, this will help somewhat, while you try to manage the drink situation and get adequate and appropriate support for yourself.

If your thoughts are causing you serious havoc, I urge you to please see a psych. who can help diagnose severe anxiety (or related issues) before it causes you any more stress.
Benzos are highly addictive - Ive seen my ex and friends go down an awful route, due to addiction to them. Would not advise, my friend.

Get adequate help for you. Sounds like you're dealing with far too much stress at the moment and need as much support and direction as you can get. <3

Rob,

Have you tried working with a different psychotherapist? I'm not sure what kind of options you have (I'm unfamiliar with UK healthcare), but successful therapy reall demands a good "fit" between the patient and the therapist. It's also possible that you might benefit from some kind of therapy other than CBT. True, CBT is pretty much the state of the art when it comes to non-pharmaceutical approaches to treating depression and anxiety. But everyone is different.

Any chance of giving some other therapists a go?
