Hi There,

This is my first post on BlueLight so hopefully Im posting this in the right place.

I have had a terrible time over the past 5 years with major depression & anxiety.

I took alot of ecstasy over a two year period around 8 years ago and feel Im getting terrible pay back now.

I have tried a few SSRI's including citalapram, mirtazapline which I have had bad reactions too.

The bad reactions from the SSRI's are brain zaps, panic attacks, and overall feeling alot worse then I already was.

Has anyone found a SSRI that has worked for them? I know Im highly sensitive towards them but feel desperate enough to give them another shot.

Im heading to the doctors tomorrow so any help would be appreciated.

Thank-you!

Hi elsi, I am just about as clueless as you. I don't know if there is a magic cure to what we've done to ourselves over the years. Perhaps time is the only thing that will truly heal us. All I can say is be as honest with your doctor as you possibly can. If you are depressed, suicidal, anxious, one or the other or all of them, say it. Explain every one of your symtoms in full detail and don't let the doctor pressure or push you through fast. Remember you are paying them good money to diagnose you properly. These drugs they will be prescribing you can have just as much repercussions as the drugs you've taken and gotten you to this point you are at now.

Find a good doctor. Think of your appointment as an interview be honest and open with them and evaluate how much detail they put into your diagnosis. If they prescribe you a medication research it afterwards. Even make a thread if you'd like if you can't find the answers you're looking for while searching through threads.

If during your first appointment (interview) you don't feel comfortable with your doctors diagnosis go to another one until you find the right doctor. You may need to see a specialist to allot time to discuss in more depth your issues and what you are hoping to get fixed.

Keep us updated I would really like to hear how things go <3.

I would use an MAOI inhibitor and anti-psychotic for major depressive disorder, I don't think they work well for major depression.

My drug of choice used to be MDMA, MDxx. That changed when I couldn't handle the comedown for days after using. I got a prescription for Lexapro 20mg daily and found that worked really well after about 2 weeks.

There are often unwanted side effects wen you start taking and A-D, most of these shouldn't persist over a week, also it usually takes over two weeks to start to "reap the benefits" of any A-D. If you're still using drugs often (including alcohol) it can prevent the A-D from being effective.

Deroxat (paroxetine) and effexor (venlafaxine) are A-D's that I have been told by doctors and have read help with both anxiety and depression, there are some "horror stories" of people having horrible withdrawls hen stopping of unbearable side-effects, but for some t has done wonders for their depression and anxiety.

I used zoloft before ,with excellent results .

It kept me awake at night a little bit ,but ANXEITY was zero !

to be honest dude. Im experiencing a similar thing as well. All the feed back ive gotten, was to try to not take any SSRI or meds and take time to your self and let your brain regulate.

Trust me I know its not easy. Im lossing my mind and its been 3 months since my last MDMA dose that sent me into a spiral of anxiety and depression. Im working on getting my life together without medications. The only thing Im taking is a sleeping medication. The SSRI apparently make things worse in the long run from what I gather.

There are a number of supplements you can take that help the brain regulate.
Fish oils
magnesium
Lions mane mushroom
ashwagandha
St Johns Wort

Just a few off my head

The natural route is the hardest, but might be the most rewarding.

Are you set on a SSRI? They never worked for me personally, and the side effects were too dramatic. I was on probably 8 different anti-depressants before I found Wellbutrin, which has been far and away the most effective drug I've ever been prescribed. Everyone is different though. And it is an NDRI. Good luck. ;)

Paroxetine binds the strongest, and is probably the most overall effective SSRI. Venlafaxine is a very strong ad, an SNRI with some interesting peripheral mechanisms. Both very effective.

Talk to a doctor, medical professional, or Psychiatrist about this as you know yourself better than strangers online do.

medical professionals know about as much anyway. It depends on the person, some people do not respond well at all to SSRIs and their efficacy in treating depression/anxiety has little evidence. The other ADs like tricyclics come with dietary restrictions or weight gain/nightmares, they are all actually pretty shitty.

There are however many other things you can try like therapy, change in lifestyle, diet. If those really do not work and you seriously don't feel any better then for treatment resistant depression, sometimes things like amphetamines and benzodiazepines work. Those are last resorts though. There are a plethora of antipsychotics, mood stabalizers and ADs out there, many of which won't work but some people just keep switching them around until they find one that works. That seems to be the approach most people take, i would personally rather get to the root cause of the depression than fuck with my neurotransmitters so badly though.

SSRIs, other ADs, APs will cause just as much if not more harm than your traditional pharm drugs of abuse, they aren't to be messed around with and each have their own dependence/withdrawal as well.
