Opioids Plastic adulterants in fentanyl

Well, this is pretty disturbing. I have never heard of BTMPS before. I guess this probably explains the strange odors and flavors of fentanyl that people have been reporting here on BL. Not good.

More than half of the street fentanyl samples collected in November 2024 contained BTMPS, and many contained more BTMPS than fentanyl.

That’s super weird because in one study on rats I found, it reduces withdrawal symptoms and decreases addictiveness of morphine. And there are other studies with nicotine and cocaine showing the same thing. Not exactly what dealers would want. But on the flipside it might actually have benefits. And it does not seem to be toxic based on the research done so far. There are worse adulterants, and it looks like one could probably remove it without too much difficulty, as it is vastly less soluble in water than fentanyl - 18 vs 200mg/ml.

Calling it a plastic adulterant is rather misleading, imo. It’s a nicotinic antagonist in mammals.
