"reddish lavender"?
(i'm assuming EZ-test is the Marquis reagent.)
"dl- and l-ephedrine: orange, dark brown, wine red
methamphetamine and amphetamine: orange-red to dark brown
paredrine: purple-red to dark purple"
-- Haley et al (1948)
'paredrine' is p-hydroxyamphetamine, rather closely related to PMA, and PMA could test similarly. chemically, i can see NO reason why PMA wouldn't react with Marquis reagent (although i've heard more than once that it doesn't).
aj is right. if your pill tests red, it's not MDMA. *that* is a sound and valid conclusion.
your pill could be PMA or some relative; it could just as easily be an opiate, since opiates do provide similar results. in north america opiates (except DXM) in E tabs are extremely rare. at any rate, not doing it was a good idea.
