not sure if there are many phans here but think this is a pretty deserving threader. so tour kicks off tonight in bethel. the show should give us a nice little peek of what we can expect this summer. hope they kill it!!!

Last Summer was my first Phish concert and it was an AMAZINGLY good time. I had literally 4 beers the whole night, and I couldn't have been higher if I smoked DMT and shot up ketamine....their music was so transcendent. They were amazing, and Trey is perhaps even better than he was ever before.
Their new songs are AWESOME.
I unfortunately am going to miss them, but I am so mad about that!

God I would love to see them once..bad news for me is that I'm in Houston Texas which is probably the last place on earth they would want to play a show. I need to suck it up and drive to see them...just wish they would play the set list of my choice though.
If I knew they would play...Slave to the traffic light/YEM/Divided sky/Mikes song/NICU and split open and melt I would drive across country.

hopefully i'll go to the camden show

listened to the first two nights of the tour today and they sounded gooood

ah what a weekend. first 2 nights were amazing. they were just not locked in tonight though. i was waiting all night for them to let the cat out the bag but it never happened. all in all though a good way to start off. i hope the stream will be up for PNC on tuesday and wed. now i just gotta hurry up and wait untill the uic run.

theotherside: they played ACL last year, idk how close that is to houston though. but dude, just get up and go, you will not regret it.

^^I know I have to see them at least once man...I have loved them since I was 14 years old..started with Junta and never looked back. I have seen Widespread Panic which were good but not Phish.

Haha, I think a TX show would actually go down pretty well. Panic comes to town a couple times a year and always packs the house, and Phish played a show in Dallas in '98 that was one of their best that whole year. So, while I get your point, I think TX actually has some potential -- too bad its never gunna happen, LOL.

I'm doing both nights at Merriweather Post Pavillion on the 11th and 12th. Saw them for the first time last summer and was blown away.

Killed it in atlanta. The second night was almost ruined by this epic thunderstorm. I had lawn tickets for the second night, but with a little help from horizontal rain I managed to go into the pit. After the rain delay they had to play classics. Had a blast. Didn't really get to hear much of their new stuff.

i was there....first night was light years better than the second. i guess the storm didn't really help, but i was hoping they would murder that second set and it was a bit of a let down. oh well, can't win em all.

superball sounded great. crosseyed>chalkdust was a monster. secret set sleeping monkey was funny.

i like what phish is doing right now. they sound great. they're a bit nostalgic and uncreative in their setlists, but they are playing some solid shows. i'm not gonna drop my life and hop on tour, but if i was still in my 20's i probably would.

as for texas....they killed texas in the mid 90's. this is one of my favorite shows. life on mars from superball sounded great. dallas bomb factory show in 94 is pretty rad as well.

I went to Superball wondering if I could still handle 3 days of Phish, but I was so, so wrong to have any doubts. I was rewarded with just a solid performance all weekend. Sure, some people may bitch about the guys not going crazy with the jams, but I think it harkens back to the early days which was always more songs, less jams.

Highlights:

Friday Set 1: Peaches, Torn and Frayed, Life on Mars?, Quinn (must hear Quinn)
Friday Set 2: Jam > Crosseyed > Chalk Dust (best Chalkdust I've heard in a while)

Saturday Set 1: Tube (nothing special, but I really wanted to hear this song this weekend), Boogie On > Camelwalk
Saturday Set 2: Jim > McGrupp, Stash (awesome), FULL Scents and Subtle Sounds, great Antelope
Saturday Set 3: Golden Age (really liking this cover, it keeps getting better), 2001 > Hood, Day in the Life was great
Saturday Late Night: Wow. Not sure it holds up if you weren't there, but wow.

Sunday Set 1: SIX personal bustouts for me this set. Epic. I mean, I finally got a Forbin's > Mockingbird WITH narration (and good narration at that). Destiny Unbound, Mound, A Song I heard the Ocean Sing, Reba > Bowie. Just great
Sunday Set 2: Hilarious opener with Big Balls, Disease > No Quarter (srsly), Ghost > Jibboo > Light, Waves > What's the Use?

Definitely not going to be my last Phish fest. Looking forward to UIC, but wish I was hitting some west coast shows. They are going to webcast Tahoe.

good to know you handled it.

i don't know if i could do a 3 day phish fest anymore either, but you gave me hope.

i like the band right now. not to say i don't miss some huge jams, but i certainly don't miss huge wank fests. and often times huge jams turned into huge wank fest. especially with 2.0.

i would like to see them bring back the porn funk extended tube. these tubes are clocking in at like 4 minutes, i miss the nasty tubes like dayton 97 and salt lake 98.

but, it's not 1997 anymore and i'm totally happy with phish as they are right now.

Best Tube I ever got was Hershey in fall 2000 I think. They did a funk jam reprise. Kind of a weak show otherwise. I remember the second set being much better than the first.
