Phenibuit in Benzo WDS

Hey,

So i've googled the crap out of this subject, yet can't really find a clear cut answer:

Is occasional Phenibuit use during Benzo WDS when you REALLY REALLY just cannot sleep even an hour detrimental to the recovery process?

I know Phenibuit was used in Russia and still is: And I know it appears to work on GABA-B rather than GABA-A receptors, so does this mean using it 2-3 times a week before bed for sleep is safe? I also know it is a nootropic so has supposed benefits but I am skeptical if it is capable of causing WDs.

I have heard just so many mixed things about it: Some saying you can get withdrawals from it if used too much, but if so, then how much is too much?

Is it just generally a bad idea because you can risk swapping one addiction with another? Or is it okay for occasional use?

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks

F'loki

This is really a bad idea. I know how bad benzo withdrawal and subsequent PAWS is, I got cut off cold turkey from a daily high dose ten year limitless prescription. I had often wondered about phenibut as well but ultimately decided against it as it is much more addictive than benzos from all my research. Tolerance builds quickly, and your supply could be shut down on any given day with no advanced warning which could lead to a cold turkey situation and can kill you.

When I got off benzos I used that horrible withdrawal period to learn valid nonpharmaceutical coping mechanisms for dealing with stress, anxiety, and insomnia. At best consider getting a script for propranolol to help with anxiety - it's a beta blocker that stops the physiological response to anxiety and generally decreases anxiety. Also get some melatonin and trazodone for sleep.

Take my word, you will be much better off without using GABAergic drugs ;)

More addictive really? Fair enough, I didnt realise that. I read the WDs only last a week and are nowhere near as bad as GABA-A benzos. But obviously not.

Will likely just ditch my remaining 2 grams of it. Obviously not a real nootropic or a supplement and more of a benzo in its own right not to be fucked with.

I'll chat to the doctor about trazodone. I'm carrying on with my herbs though, I think they really help.

That seems to be the case - there are many threads on Bluelight discussing Phenibut, along with a megathread. You may actually want to post your original question to the mega thread to get more feedback. I used to moderate Sober Living and the dark Side and people would frequently pm me with their issues stopping Phenibut and the addiction seemed to escalate almost instantly which is concerning. That being said, I think the dose has a large impact. Most people I worked with started off megadosing. However, if you look at nootropic forums where the people using it aren't addicts they don't seem to have as many issues, but many still end up at the megadose quantities and then are surprised by the withdrawal. The withdrawal can be just as bad as benzo withdrawal, and I have read several reports from abruptly stopping phenibut that allude to them entering into excitotoxicity which then does serious and pervasive neurological damage and a long recovery period. Again, that's just my take and I am not a professional in pharmaceuticals. I think you will get better answers posing this in the Phenibut Megathread.

No that's all I need to know thanks. :)

More pills is not the solution. End of discussion for me. I want to go straight-edge so this is definitely not part of the solution.
