I have heard a few times that there is a specific inert chemical used in all prescription drugs, and that one of it's potential side effects is death. Thus making death a potential side effect of all prescription drugs. I'm having a hard time confirming weather or not it's true. Given the key words like chemical, prescription, and drugs, you can imagine all the results search engines bring up when trying to look it up. So can anyone confirm weather this is true or not? If so, what is it.

I sincerely doubt there is an "inert" substance used in all prescription drugs that has a side effect of death. Inert implies it does nothing.

There are things like talc that are commonly used as filler that is extremely problematic for IV users.

Be realistic. First of all, by definition if something is inert it's inactive or or lacking the ability to react. Second of all, if said ingredient had a side effect of death, yet it was of no value to the drug, why would it be included?

Why would this ingredient be included in all prescription drugs, but not OTC? The FDA's agenda is not to kill prescription drug users? Also, is said ingredient not present in OTC drugs? Once a drug goes past being available OTC, by law they must add DEATH to the drug...lol that makes sense.

Generally speaking, if a drug requires prescription, the fda has deemed it having some sort of risk where they feel it needs to be taken under doctors orders. So sure, a lot of prescription drugs could probably cause death if you overdose or combine with the wrong counterpart, but is there a ingredient which is included across the board for any drug requiring a prescription? Definitely not. There is not even a chance.

What would even make you think such a thing?

There is however a very small risk of Steven Johnson Syndrome with a lot of prescription drugs. Even just the simple ones like ibuprofen. Quite scary when you think about it. But it is extremely rare.

Yeah I mean there are quite a few non prescription drugs that given the right conditions can result in death. But prescription or otc, I find it hard to beleive that a nameless 'inert' ingredient with a side-effect of death is being used across the board by every manufacturer on every single prescription drug. I mean just writing that sentence I am laughing lol.

I think the last time that there was an "inert ingredient causing death" was the Elixir Sulfanilamide fuckup, and that was before the FDA existed...

Ingredient lists are published for all FDA approved drugs, you should be able to tell if there's something nasty in it (i.e. that you're allergic to). Most of the time it's just things like cellulose, talc, starches, colors, and binders. Inert stuff.
