This was an idea I had over people bickering over DJ setups that have been going on for ages. Traktor vs. Serato, Pioneer vs. Allen and Heath.

So, if given unlimited amount of money what would be your ideal setup?

I would go for a pair of Technics MK5s or M5Gs, with a Xone 22, Shure whitelabels and Traktor Scratch.

I'd settle for this guy's setup

^^^ yeah, i like rotary mixer setups, too. for me, the mixer choice is pretty crucial.

on a different note, the part of the setup that's often unappreciated are the speakers/monitors. the speakers are the most important for sound quality by far. i'd rather forgo the cdj-2000 (nexus), the m5g, or whatever, and go for cheapo controllers (e.g., denon sc2000), and splash out for super-premium monitors instead.

no moniter will make mp3 sound good mate. a 1210 with decent needles n basic moniter will sound better than any digital set up. mp3 sounds flat and compressed -i cant go to clubs with digi set ups as its horribley loud with no top end and no real bass -it sounds like a horrible cluster fuck of midrange crossover distortion.

2x Technics 1210 (or equal turntables), proper DJ Mixer (eg Allen & Heath), Sennheiser HD-25, big trolley full of vinyl goodness

I've never understood why people tend to want reference monitors. I would rather a decent set of cans and a PA system (JBL preferably lol). I can somewhat understand the need for a flat frequency response for monitoring the mix, but it just strikes me as good way of tiring your ears. I'd even go for a sub-par hifi setup just to monitor the mix. If it came to it, probably a stage monitor.

There's a lot of opinion out there that using a really decent club rotary mixer and sending a digital signal to it, ie not using vinyl is a waste of time. I've also heard otherwise that its really decent. I've also heard that they are generally pure sex to use.

I think criteria for a great dj booth also includes it being a full proper setup for OTHER djs to play on for afterparties.

Some DJ's will REALLY give you your money's worth

;)

I would go with Technics/Serato and the Allen&Heath Xone : 92. I think Allen&Heath mixers are great for vinyl. I've really only played with the Xone92 and the DJM800, and a few other lower quality mixers. CDJ's are fun tho'. You can get really creative with your mix from the utilization of CDJ/DJM built in effects.
