Yesterday or this morning, cant tell which, i watched a story on the News that said a man was taking the antidepressant Crap called paxil, and went completely psychotic and murdered 2-3 other people and then shot himself, my question is, dont we get the damn picture? we have no clue what this shit does long term, yet we let shit like this happen. which is worse, the "drug that gives you the rage of 10 men" or narcotics, or any other illegal drug for that matter? this is a serious corruption going on, we prescribe drugs that actually cause danger to the public yet we cant use others because theyre "too dangerous". Im moving soon......
Has Anyone had any experiences of this level of absurdity with SSRI's? Any more murders? Post them if you do.

give me a break! this lawsuit should bring up the issue of tort reform, not drug companies' corruption!!!! so a man with depression & a history of mental health problems on paxil does this... maybe he should have been on more paxil & for longer!

hmm
i had *brutal* withdrawal from effexor.. if i missed a dose, i got intense nausea and a headache

Just because the guy is on Paxil does not mean the Paxil was the source of his rage. Obviously he already had issues. This is the same as those who blame death's on "XTC" or another drug because it was found in their system. If they had determined he was on "XTC" they would have blamed it on that. They tend to leave out the important details which is the real underlining cause of their death or postal rage. I was on Paxil for migraines and never had the urge to go on a rampage.

Look, you wanna compare brain pans? I won the Westinghouse prize when I was 12, big deal. Published at 19, so what. I got a double doctorate from M.I.T. at 22, chemistry and geology. I taught at Princeton for two and a half years. Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes, and they let me use explosives, OK?

I don't think Paxil alone triggered this guy's psychotic episode, but I do agree that there is much we don't know about the longterm effects of the newer class of pyschotropic meds...too many scary reports already and they've only been on the market for 5-15 years...GI tract damage...*INCREASED* suicide rates on Paxil...Permanently altered neurochemistry...I've clipped dozens of this kind of article from papers and mags.
It will be ten or twenty years before we know how much damage these drugs are doing to people, and if their benefits outweigh this damage.
Hey Cipher, is thatsig quote from Ratner's Star? Sounds very familiar...

I don't take drugs. I am drugs.

i took 8 prozacs and a zoloft yesterday...then i went out, kidnapped 12 third grade children, locked em in my car, and sent them rolling off a cliff...you should hear about it on the news a week from now...when their parents finally realize that their children are missing... -=\

people with suicidal tenancies are, in fact, often too depressed and lacking the energy required to kill themselves. drugs like prozac and paxil have been reported to increase the likelihood of suicide because these anti-depressants give someone with such a serious mental disease the energy or "perk" needed to follow-through with their deaths.

I had a horrible experience with Paxil. It was a low dose prescribed to me. Apparantly, some individuals have a bad reaction to it. It made me anxious, nervous, irritable, and I had a panic attack. My doctor said that some individuals have adverse reactions that mimic what the drug is supposed to be counteracting. But I've heard a lot of good things about this medication...whats not good meds for some, is for others.

Of course this nut-job had some SERIOUS issues to begin with, so I wouldn't blame the drug - but the point you make is very valid, we know LITTLE about what these drugs do in the long-term.. as I talked about earlier, the Miami doctor (who "abused" narcotics for 40 years with only positive effects) was right - narcotics as well as other drugs have a track record going back hundreds, maybe thousands of years..

That's incorrect. Paxil is actually one, if not the highest, prescribed drug for social anxiety disorder and is also prescribed for depression, OCD and migraines. Just because a drug is an SSRI does not make it soley an anti-depressant.

In Australia a guy strangled his wife supposedly due to Zoloft.
It's crazy, before he started taking them everyone described him as that elderly guy that everyone likes.
If a doctor ever tries to get me to take that crap I swear I'll hit him in the face.

I know 5 people who are on paxil 2 for social anxiety and 3 for depression and this drug has really made a poitive impact on thier lives.
I saw the story that you are talking about. He killed his wife, daughter, his grandchild and than himself. The family sued and won, I beleve 4.5 million from the pharmacutical company the jury found the pharm company 80% at fault and the man 20% I personally don't think that's correct but that's my opinion. He had only taken 2 pills and scientifically paxil doesn't really take effect for approx 3 weeks.
They also said that he has been depressed for the vast majority of his adult life(25+ years), there's only a certain amount of time that someone can deal with this disease before they snap if they do not recieve help.
One of the chairpersons fom the pharm company said there are very rare cases where adverse reactions take place but they have never ran into homicidal rage, and paxil along with all other drugs in this treatment catagory should be taken along with therapy which this guy did not do.
It is a horrible thing that this happened to this guy and his victims. I feel bad for the man who had to live his life feeling like this and the innocent victims, but I think the family is just capitaizing on thier family's misfortune which makes me sick. Durring the interview the killings really didn't seem to be effecting them too much; they we smiling an seemed pretty much like they were on top of the world. I just found that the lack of normal grief emotions very disturbing and sick. I believe this shows how pathetic and self centered the human race can be, but once again that's just my opinion.

ENIGMA

I want to just quickly say that Sherbert Ass' position is correct, i share it and i think many more people should, not just with SSRI's but other things like anti inflammatories for serious pain, punch that fucking doctor in the face for that crap, what a fucking jackass. they should take his license for shit like that. People dont need to be given alternate medications instead of the most effective ones just because theyre fun, and thats the major problem in this country. Dont put up with bullshit, you may not want to actually get physical with the doctor, but please, use harsh words and let him know you wont put up with it.

paxil does cause people to go berzerk...my little brother started taking it for his OCD i think, that or mild depression. within a month he tried to hang himself multiple times...they lowered his dosage and he is kinda gettin back to normal. but on the Dateline NBC they did a shindig bout Paxil and a few kids actually killed themselves due to the medication...

My dad took effexor for a while and everytime he tried to reduce the dose, he got a headache and a ringing in his ears that would all go away if he took more. I wonder how safe it is, considering it is a phenethylamine (MDMA, 2ct7, 2cb), many of which are considered research chemicals. Not to mention the two pages of side effects listed in the PDR.
