Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has history with successfully tapering off of paxil and wellbutrin. And Gabbapentin if possible. I want to check into a treatment center to rid myself of them, but I am very worried about my health and frankly life, relative to the withdrawals. I am not sure I can physically make it through. I do not see many successful stories about the meds I mentioned so i am hoping someone can provide insight. Also, I am in Sacramento, CA, so if anyone here is from Sac, and could recommend a good long term facility, I would appreciate it. I am on medi cal so I am sure it will be low grade treatment, but I need some insight on any you have knowledge of. I want to simply surrender myself to a program but I lilke you am afraid. Not about having the meds, but about my health by stopping the meds. Can I really survive this and come out the other side?

This sounds stressful. You can stop taking these medications with the help of a professional and be fine. First call you prescriber, or helpline to discuss how to discontinue the medications. 800-662-4357 is a good hotline to call. Alternatively, in your area the nonprofit Voices of Recovery works to create plans for treatment.

I wish you the best of luck and I know you will find treatment that works for you. People want to see you healthy.

Thank you, yes I am very stressed about it. Sometimes too much information can scare you more than no information. LOL! I will certainly look into what you provided. Thank you again for taking the time to share. Really means a lot.

I am trying to learn how to capture the moment, instant or whatever one calls it, that occurs during our struggles, where we are distracted. It could be from watching a story on TV, or dropping a plate or someone saying your name etc... That moment when hell does not exist, that disappears just as quickly, but frees us from the horrors of withdraw. What is that moment?

I advice to switch to fluoxetine (Prozac) before tapering an antidepressant, they can induce rather nasty withdrawal. I was on venlafaxine for many years and only managed to quit it by using fluoxetine as an intermediate. Bupropion on the other hand shouldn't be too hard.

I began this journey in 2007, and was prescribed Effexor as well. I was forced to withdraw from it after losing my medical coverage. I was on suboxone for opiate dependency, so it masked many of the symptoms, save for the vertigo. I also eventually had to withdraw from the suboxone as my coverage ended and I was not able to quickly get on medical. Had a sixty day wait. That period of withdraw destroyed my life, marriage etc....I drank Carlos Rossi wine each night to sleep and during the day just paced and sighed. I just about lost it. Only the wine would distract me from the effects. Eventually I got medical and began the paxil and wellbutrin, and stopped drinking. Then I blew it again by taking the gabbapentin for my back pain as I did not want to do the opiate thing again. I had no idea gabbapentin was just as bad, when it comes to withdraw. It actually feels worse to be honest. Very scary.

Oh, and during the suboxone withdraw period, I smoked weed off and on. I went to get a card, and started to try various strains. All made me more anxious but I finally started on the syringe oil or extract, and found one that sort of helped but money was tight. Weed did not help me as much as i thought it would. The weed today versus what I tried as a youngster is way different. I do not even know what we smoked back then, but it was fun. Relaxing and made me happy. I assumed it would be like that today, but no, too many strains, too much anxiety.

And I was very disappointed in the "Cannabis Experts" at the shops. I would ask them about a strain for anxiety and every time it was a different one. They were simply doing business and pushing overstock it seemed. I know whatever they smoked, was not in the shops.

That all sucks. I wanted to hear how is it going now?
I'm looking and planning/coordinating on attempting to taper, discontinue soon. Right now I am still taking them, or had to get back on as things got hairy fast. When I start, I am going to try and keep this updated and sort of record what I used to rid myself of them, if successful.

I was on Bupropion (Wellbutrin) for years…..discontinuing should be an issue. Dose reduction could be done like if your in 300mg XR reduce to the minimum 150mg XR tablets then skip every other day, then cease.

Paxil I have no idea…..same thing, dose reductions until you’re on lowest dose then stop

Gabapentin might be useful when stopping all your other meds, but also reduce daily intake slowly

Clonidine 0.1mg tablets could be useful for anxiety, reducing norepinephrine and blood pressure. It’s a mild sedative and potent anxiolytic medication used for drug withdrawal (opioids, benzos, alcohol, smoking, etc) you’ll sleep like a baby at night and during the day can make you more relaxed and less on edge /nervous & agitated.

You can do it :)

Thank you. My biggest concern is the anxiety. As I'm sure most of us fear. The other symptoms I can deal with. My anxiety is what triggers my thoughts and then it goes south. I genuinely fear a stroke or heart attack, and of course seizure. I'm holding off starting until I get my klonopine. I want to have my supplies on hand. I know it will be a long slow journey, but one I want to take. I will definitely take it one day at a time, being mindful as well of the klonopine dependence possibility. I researching how to improve Gabba currently as I believe it plays a big part. Thank you again. Happy New Year! Hopefully next year on this day, I will be free of the meds, healthy and happy.

Hello, I do not know what that means? Lol! Is it once daily or? Tds means intervals yes? Sorry, just wondering. Thanks.
I simply moved the thread to a more appropriate subforum where you will get better replies :)

TDS is The Dark Side where we discuss mental health, medications and the woes of life. It could also go in the Health and Recovery forum if you prefer, either is appropriate.

It was in Other Drugs which is more for drug use related topics.
