between boring and bored
I am a huge Beatles fan and though George was my favorite I love all of their songs. I also love John and Georges solo stuff and thought I liked Pauls until tonight. I was listening to Wings greatest hits and the music is horrible mainly the lyrics. It sounds like the words were written by a child and even the stuff I know I used to like was really flat and corny. I don't remember live and let die being so wimpy. I guess my perspective has changed but I still love the Beatles though the ones I like least are usually Pauls songs(not counting Ringo his music really blows). I guess that's what happens when you write ear candy there is no substance to the material.

He wasn't as strong of a lyricist as Lennon or Harrison in the band, but he was an amazing songwriter.

^Rivals any song on Abbey Road (or any Beatles album really).

I'm not the biggest Solo Paul fan myself, but Band on the Run and Maybe I'm Amazed are pretty solid.

I love abbey road and you never give me your money, golden slumbers(used to sing to my boy when he as a baby),and even in the end are awesome.
He is also a great bass player! He comes from a musical family and knows how to produce really well(him and George Martin were responsible for much of late 60' Beatles sound) but his lyrics just are just silly sometimes. I know Frank Zappa said that lyrics are basically just filler but it's hard to listen to a song such as silly love song without being like what the fuck.

Never underestimate that the Lennon/McCartney songwriting team was far greater than the sum of its parts.

Plus, Paul is one of the best bass players in the history of rock n roll, bar none.

Never was my "favourite beatle", but they transcended everything (imo). Still love Paul.

Btw John would have turned 75 a couple of days ago, apparently.

Is there a symbology to the suits they're wearing?

It often seems like Lennon is presented as some kind of Jesus Christ. But I don't get that high of a consciousness-energy from him. I think he was more of an intellectual/idealist.

That picture(Abbey Road) was based on a rumor that Paul was dead. John is the preacher,Ringo the mourner,Paul is the dead man(that's why he has no shoes) and George is the grave digger!

Yep, spot on. Well spotted Ninae :)

John as intellectual/idealist/tripper!
Such a great cover, such a funny hoax. I'm glad paul isn't dead (still).

No, I don't think he represented what he preached. But being an intellectual/idealist is better than nothing.

Hey Mr. Lennon fell short on somethings(he was human,i think) and his image of being a super loving hippie was overblown but he did alot of good things and brought a lot of attention to important issues. I remember the night he was murdered I was 5 and my brother (he was 17)came in my room around midnight crying and told me.At five I was in tears because even at that age I understood who John was and loved his music at an early age.I think my brother felt like the rest of the world and was in deep mourning and had to talk to someone even a child.

Actually do any of us practice what we preach we are all hypocrites!
But as my buddy above pointed out you have a good eye!

Paul McCartney sucks

he just played a show in my town, I was disgusted to be within ear shot

the Beatles are ok (when they were more 60s rock instead of all acid rock) - but no fucking way can I stand Paul Mc

IME, the vast majority of lyrics are terrible, so I tend to not judge music too harshly if the lyrics aren't too good.

Paul was a fantastic songwriter.

@axl blaze: I saw Paul play a couple years ago, and I thought he totally still had it. Played a great 3 hour show, which is quite impressive for his age.

I am a complete and utter Beatles fanatic/nerd. My favorites have always been John and George. In Paul's defense, he has freely admitted that he does make corny love songs and is more inclined to Pop music. And he is a badass bass player. When the Beatles were at their best, they added to each other's compositions perfectly. Paul's bassline in Come Together is awesome. He also is responsible for a song that many said was a precursor for Heavy Metal, "Helter Skelter"

^ I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS!

I love how Paul played with Nirvana (well, chris, dave and pat) a couple of years ago.
A mix of nirvana and beatles songs, apparently.
I havent heard anything from it - i'm not sure that i'd want to, in all honestly.
But i think it's cool.
It took me a long time to appreciate paul post-beatles. I dont like his music so much, but i respect the dude.

I saw the video from it. It was cool but it wasn't Nirvana.

They wrote a song together.

Being both a Nirvana and Beatles fan..... I wasn't particularly impressed with it

All the Beatles started declining post-breakup. Well, John released two brilliant albums (Imagine, Plastic Ono) but, besides the odd track or two (Mind Games for eg), I think his music utterly plummetted. Bearing in mind, he is my primary rock idol; it hurts me to say that Double Fantasy was utter shite. :\ I like All Things Shall Pass by George, but found a lot of his other output to be dull. Paul never made my favorite Beatles tracks, and I have heard little of his solo music that I would relisten to...

Totally agreed re: Pauls bass playing. I love the sound of a Hofner, and he plucks that muthfucka brilliantly. He has/had a great gentle pop voice, but had great capacity for more gruff rocking. However, I am not a fan of his solo work and tend to overlook his Beatles stuff. Its often so twee and nursery-rhyme like. I do love his tune Martha My Dear, and stuff like Back in the USSR is killer.

I disagree with the retro-assesment of Helter Skelter as metal. Its simply hard rock. The Beatles are my favorite band of all time, and they were groundbreaking but- they did not invent metal.

They may not have invented metal (i agree) but some of those who arguably did (ie Black Sabbath) were big Beatles fans.

Likewise, punk - the Ramones named themselves after Paul's pseudonym when checking into hotel rooms, etc (Paul Ramone).

Ozzy met Paul Mcartney in the late 90's on the Howard Stern Show and was like a 16 year old meeting his favorite idol. I know a lot of Ozzy is put on for show but at the same time there is this under tow of extreme sincerity with him(dichotomy). This time though there was no show just pure nervous don't know what to say sincerity. It was pretty awesome!
