Mental Health Past cocaine use and anxiety?

I used cocaine for a year straight up to three times a week. I also messed around with Molly. I ended up overdosing on Molly last May and since then stayed clean of everything. Last summer, I was fine. The only thing I did was drink. Around October I started noticing small moments of anxiety but nothing too concerning however as time went on I would feel a bit more anxious in situations I used to feel ok in.

This March, my grandma passed away. Her passing apparently set me over the edge. Two weeks later I was struggling with panic attacks. My anxiety and panic got so bad that I had to leave my job and am currently on a benzo and ssri.

So I guess I'm wondering, could my year of cocaine use have caused my anxiety? I'm afraid of never getting my life back. Anxiety has taken over and I can barely leave my house.

send my condolences about your grandma

anxiety is a bit tricky to diagnose thats why many cases get labeled as generalized anxiety disorder

from what i picked up from psychotherapy...take what i say with a grain of salt i also asked this question but then again i was flying high of diazepam when i would go to therapy lol
anxiety can be triggered a bunch of different ways
drugs can def play a role when it comes to anxiety...either itll cause anxiety while under the influence but at the same time
drugs can bring underlying anxiety to the surface
coke can def cause both scenarios since its puts a lot of stress on the body and mind

on a sub conscious level your grandmas's passing couldve also triggered it...thats what happen with me when my grandfather passed away, thats when i had my frist panic attack...guess it affected more than i thought

me personally have been battling anxiety for over 10 yrs and ive had good years bad years and even worse years

i would recommend getting a physical done to see if the coke binge did any damage...just because it was only a year doesnt mean it couldnt of done damage
after that continuing your meds but also some therapy i did CBT which didnt do shit for(still suggest you try it if thats all you can get)..now i do psycho therapy which is more intense but helps a lot

for some people high levels of anxiety never fully go away but with meds and or therapy it can become manageable
and for others anxiety can def go away

Thank you for the response. So a few questions/statements.

With getting a physical done, how or what would they be looking for to see if the Coke did any damage?
I know cocaine usually can bring anxiety about, when I was on it, not once did I feel anxious or panicked. Always felt very calm. Awake but calm and in a (what I thought) good state of mind.
I am currently in therapy. Was in therapy before all of this started. Did cbt, dbt, just talking. Nothing seems to help.
Along with this horrible anxiety/panic, my sex life has disappeared. I can't have sex with out panicking after and I never had this issue before.

its never a bad idea to get a physical done and talk with a doc about whats going on
coke can do damage to the heart, increase BP etc anxiety can manifest itself from underlying medical issues as well
thyroid, low b12 and other things can cause anxiety
....my anxiety comes a little bit from my asthma which i wrote off as anxiety until i got checked out and was confirmed i have a mild form of asthma
at one point i also has a b12 level of 200 which is pretty damn low...soon as i started taking methl b12 my mood improved and my anxiety eased up a bit

yeah i panic sometimes after sex even during because i start to hyperventilate lol and i also think because of the increased heart rate
next time let the other person do all the work.. that works for me when i start to panic lol

If it was a year after your cocaine binge I doubt there is a huge connection.

Unfortunately anxiety, like most mental illnesses isn't something that can be tested for physically like a blood test or even an mri. It is still greatly misunderstood with causes as wide ranging as emotional, physical damage and genetic.

See a medical professional and worry less about what you may have done to cause it and worry more about what you can control now to limit it.

Thank you deos. I need to get blood taken but terrified on a normal basis so not sure how I can go in this state of mind but I know I have to.
As for the sex, I actually let my partner do all the work and still feel this way. It's horrible.

Words, thank you as well. This is very true. Anxiety is highly misunderstood and hard to tell where it stemmed from. I'm seeing a psychiatrist and on meds.
