Let me start with some background on me and my habit. I'm in my mid twenties, I've been shooting up tar on the west coast for about 8 years. I recently moved to the east coast and get some overpriced, low quality powder dope.
I've missed my fair share of shots over the years. When my dope habit was real bad a couple of years ago I was shooting .7 or .8 of a gram a shot as that was the most I could cook and draw into a rig. My veins were so shot that sometimes after hours of vein hunting I would get so frustrated I would shove the needle as deep as it could go and hope for the best. Usually this resulted in ending the withdrawals and a small abscess. These abscess never swelled to the point of needing to be drained nor did they hurt too bad.
Lately I've been shooting this east coast powder and the occasional dilaudid. For the past week it's been the brown powder though. My veins are hard to find even after I gave them a couple of years to regenerate. So I have a lot of slippage when I'm trying to find a vein. What happens is I think I find a vein, it registers, I push a couple of units in then re-register. I did this on the back of my right arm on the pinky side about 4 inches below the elbow 3 or 4 days ago, false positive register and pulled out after 10 to 20 units. Then I switched to the left arm, hit and all was good.
Now, for the past couple of days I've had swelling and pain increasing daily. Right now my skin over a 3 inch long area feels like a sausage casing about to burst. It's red in color also. But not the crazy black and blue coloring of the previous small abscesses I've had. What could this be? How do I fix it? I don't have health insurance and don't want to be more of a burden on ER's unless I have to. Any suggestions?
