Pain meds making me sick!!

Hello, I have been taking oxycodone 10 mg for years for chronic pain. Just this year, all of a sudden, I have been getting terribly sick about an hour and a half after taking the pill. I tried to cut it to a half and that worked for about a week or so and then I puked that one up, along with my guts. (sorry for being so graphic) Then I cut it to one quarter, got nausea but didn't throw up, but sick all the same. I am wondering why this could be happening to me and if anyone else has this particular problem. I am new to this web-site and this is my first post...I hope I posted this correctly!! Thank you!!

You did well on yer first post. My first post got no replies lol.

Does sound strange. Maybe try a dose of benadryl beforehand to aid with the nausea?

I can't think as to why it would just turn on you like that. Maybe talk to your doctor about it so he can switch your meds?

Hi and welcome to Bluelight! I'm curious if your pills contain acetaminophen or not? (Which effects can be damaging to the liver) It does seem odd at even such a low dose is making you sick. Like PotatoMan said, you should talk with your doctor so he can decide the best course of action.

When I take my roxis I have no issues, but when I take Percocet I get very nauseous. The acetaminophen definitely screws with my stomach, so if you are taking Percocet this could be the case for you as well.

Did it happen only once? Maybe it's not related to the pills at all. Could be something you ate? There might be other reasons too...

Oh sorry. I read it again and noticed it did happen more than once. And I can't edit it, it seems...

Tell your doctor. I put on a new (fent) patch and felt sickly this week...took a promethazine pill (25mg) and was feeling better within 30 minutes. I also use benedryl for nausea caused by medication.

I found different brands of fent patches to be so fucking different in how much fent they put out that a different brand once drove me straight into full blown fent wd. I was on the 50ug patches but there was no way i was even getting half of that from the shitty ratiopharm patches i had. I ended up putting on 2 different patches and even then i was in wd with puking, cramps and the rest. I ended up paying even more then i usually did and having shitty patches left over just so i didn't have to suffer out 2 weeks of wd before i ran out of patches. I have found various different brands of generic MScontin's vary abit as well in time they take to kick in and how long they last but nowhere near as bad as the fent patches varied.

As to the OP it's unusual to feel suddenly sick from a dose you've been on for awile and thus are used to especially such a low dose. There is 325mg's of Acetaminophen/Paracetamol in every Percocet and the same dose of Aspirin in every Percodan. Acet does not hurt your stomach though long term use at even low doses can cause liver damage and high doses can cause nausea through liver damage and the general amount of pills as well. Aspirin can cause stomach upset as well as stomach ulcers so if you are taking Percodan or generic equivalent of that could explain the nausea. If you are just getting the straight up Oxy instant release pills then i would say that maybe for some reason it's not agreeing with you.

Either way i would say go back to your doctor asap and try to find some way to help your pain without making you sick. Anti-nausea drugs like Promethazine (available OTC in Canada as Histantil as the brand name and alot of other countries but is script only in the US), Dimenhydrinate (brand names Dramamine, Gravol, etc), Diphenhydramine as well as much stronger script only anti-nausea drugs such as Prochlorperazine (Compazine, Stemetil) and Chlorpromazine (good ol Thorazine aka Largactil) can help alot with this as well. I find Promethazine to be almost as good as anything available through script only.

Just to chime in about anti-nausea drugs. If you can get a script for it, I'd advise moving to ondansetron (Zofran) before playing with the phenothiazines. Zofran works by specifically knocking out the 5HT-3 receptors in your digestive tract that mediate nausea and vomiting. I believe it's off patent now, and you should be able to get generics if needed. It's nicer than the phenothiazines, primarily because the phenothiazines tend to hit ten or fifteen different kinds of receptors all at once (and as a result have a very wide array of side effects ranging from the merely obnoxious to the dangerous).

Instead of taking drugs to cover up a problem ^^^^^^ maybe try and figure out why you are vomitting. Taking oxy for that long perhaps has damaged your liver, have you had a liver screening? your body is very complicated and alot smarter then you think. Perhaps your body cant handle any more oxy and is rejecting it. i think they call it toxicity. Perhaps look at an alternative for pain? medical marijuana? that will definetly stop the sickness haha =D

Might be your bodies way of saying enoughs enough ?, or get some maxalon into u 30 mins before u dose

Mine are Mylan. I like them.

I can't remember what the brand name was for the good ones i had. I think they where either Ranbaxy or Mylan but i'm not sure. The Ratiopharm ones where absolutely fucking useless. A bit of oxy fixed me up more then wearing 2 50ug Ratiopharm fent patches ffs. They must not have even been putting out half of what they where supposed to be putting out.
