This trip was one of my first profound psychdelic experiences, and it happened about 2 and a half years ago, so my memory of the night isn't perfect, but I do remember the finer points. So bear with me.
It was a friday night, and after school let out I went over to my buddy's house in the hopes of scoring some mushrooms. At this time, I had eaten mushrooms maybe 10 times before. Each of these doses had been 3.5 grams, or a bit less. I felt the need to take this entheogen to the next level. So, when my buddy whipped out a couple ounces of cubes, I snatched one of them, and headed out to another friend's house to eat em'. This person has a really cool house, and it's situated on a golf course, which is the best part. There were already like 4 or 5 people there, and they all wanted to trip, so I sold them all doses, making sure to save at least a quarter for myself. Their doses varied, the smallest being 1.5g and the largest being 3.5 grams- but the important thing was, we were ALL tripping out there, and these were some potent mushrooms. I felt a bit funny loading up a peanut butter sandwich with a quarter of mushrooms... As I was eating it, I felt as if people weren't meant to eat this amount of dried mushrooms. It just felt like something you shouldn't be ingesting. Anyhow, I succesfully downed the sandwich, and kicked back on J's back porch to smoke a bowl with my pals.
The effects started to take hold at around the 30 minute mark. I felt that cool mellow feeling you get JUST BEFORE the roller coaster ride up. Sorta tingly, with a nice warm glow. I started noticing distortions, such as my friends' faces contorting in weird ways... but nothing serious (yet). The sun was beggining to go down in the western skies, behind the hills of Tennessee, and i recall this sight held such a divine beauty when I saw it that I couldn't take my eyes off it. The light refracting off the clouds danced and spun around eachother, turned different hues rapidly, such as purple and pink, and bright red. At this point, about an hour had past, and I was beggining to peak. I slowly looked down from the sunset, and saw the trees on the golfcourse spinning as if they were on those turn-tables in automobile showrooms. Their woody branches seemed to poke out of their leafy canopies, and reach towards the heavens like skinny earthy fingers. I saw these rivers of green form in the grassy fairway. They flowed like liquid... it gave the grass this cool motion, and everything on the ground seemed to be alive. I remember there was one predominating 'grass river' in the center of the fairway, with little grass-river tributaries flowing into it from multiple points. At the conjunctions of the little streams to the larger river, i saw these cool looking "angle markers", you know like the ones you drew in geometry class between two intersecting lines. These little cone-angles were representations of the color spectrum, ROYGBIV, and each color seemed to be flashy and vibrant, almost electric. 1 hour, 45 minutes.
Now that the sun had completely set, and darkness enveloped this magic trip-land of mine, one of my friends suggested that we walk out onto the golf course. We were all pretty stoned at this point, and, not to mention, all of us were tripping to some degree... me being the most tripped out person there, I enthusiastically agreed with a big smile on my face, and we set out for the links. I remember as I started to walk from the porch out to the fairway, walking felt really weird... i felt like my body was undulating in this strange S-shape, and my center of gravity was all off-balance. I remember saying "man, do you know where we're going? are we just wandering off to nowhere?"... my friend was like "fear not man, for I am jesus, and I'll lead us to the promised land." We all laughed our asses off, and i sorta had a half-fear that my friend was wigging out and I was following him straight into a terrible situation... but I put my fear aside and let the trip roll on. I began to see arms rising from the ground, like fucking zombie arms. Their fingers were all writhing and alive... and they were reaching towards me. I saw a mass of wriggling bodies under the dark grass, sort of like that clip in the movie "the ring" when it shows all those people like maggots struggling against eachother. The arms were incredibly realistic to me, and I had to convince myself "It's okay man, you're tripping, you don't believe in monster movies... you don't believe in monster movies...." The skin on these arms was really rotten and decayed-looking, and it was falling off in little bits. The bits that fell on the ground coagulated into this weird grayish flesh-mass, similar to the way the metal moved in Terminator.
Understandably, I became tired of looking at the stuff on the ground, and decided to look straight ahead. We were approaching a low hill, more of a 'knob' really. Suddenly, from out of the woods on our left, sprang a deer! It was crazy! That thing moved so fast, and i saw a million tracers behind it, each one being a different color of the spectrum. My buddy was like "oh man, holy fuck! a fucking deer! oh my god!"... we all just made a huge deal out of it, as if none of us had ever seen a deer before. We continued walking to the hill, and when we got there, we layed on our backs and looked at the stars.
I saw these cool folds in space, like space was an ocean that had a tide. Certain points of space would get closer to my face, while other points would get farther away. I saw the stars swish around, bounce off eachother, like pool balls. I remember seeing these beautiful rainbows stretch off in 4 directions from this point in space directly over my head, and these rainbow ribbons continued down until they met the distant horizon. We were all smoking weed, of course, so this contributed to the trip... i think weed is like psychedelic play-doh, it works with everything and you can use it to mold your experience into whatever you want
. We must have layed there for two hours, just zoning out to space. I saw multiple fractal vortexes open up in the sky, though they were just here and there, nothing too overwhelming... i still got to see the rainbows that whole trip. After chilling on the hill, we decided to walk back to the house, to get high and eventually crash. (3 hours 45 minutes - 4.3 hours..?)
We get back to my buddy's place after this walk that resembled some cool quest out of an RPG... and suddenly my cell phone rang, and on the caller ID it said "mom". What a buzzkill... not to mention, tripping out on a quarter of mushrooms, this is not the coolest thing in the world. I opened the phone and said "H..h-h-....h... hello?" My mom was like "hunny where are you? are you okay? I havn't heard from you!" I told her that i was safe and fine, at my friend's place, then i started going off on a tangent about how "cool this house looks! its really big! almost like a mansion!" I realized that i was going into psychedelia-talk, and somehow my willpower was able to remain intact, and let me retain some essence of 'sanity' while i talked with my mom. She was cool with be being where i was, and i felt GREAT after i hung up! I felt so relieved that i had gotten my parental shit out of the way, I had these waves of happiness that enveloped my entire body, similar to what you get off of rolls.
I walked back to the living room where my friends were, and we started smoking weed. I looked at the chandelier hanging up in that room. It was one of the ones that has the fake plastic candles going up, in like 3 concentric circles. I saw every candle morph into a mushroom, and it turned into a mushroom-chandelier. The metal supporting the candle was gone, replaced by a fungal mycelial network. When I looked at the wall, I saw millions of mushrooms starting to bud out of the wallpaper, wriggling for air and space. All of the walls of his house were completely covered in mushrooms. This was one of the coolest psychedelic visions I've ever seen. I looked at the doorway leading into the room, and I saw these weird looking transparent ghost-figures walking UP the doorway, defying gravity. These creatures had the consistency of, maybe, weed smoke... but they had heads that resembled mushroom caps. They were doing this really groovy funky-walk up the doorway, moving to the beat of the music we had on. One of the creatures jumped off the doorway, did a slow-motion summersault in midair, and dove into the carpet. I saw ripples in the carpet as if it were a fluid. Eventually, I ended up crashing on his living room couch, or somewhere, and I woke up feeling very groggy, but enlightened.
Anyone wanting to attempt a mushroom trip of this high dosage, i say BE CAREFUL. It's an extremely powerful drug, and you'd better have a safe place to stay, and make sure you'll have no obligations during your trip. This was one of the most profound psychedelic experiences of my life, and I doubt I'll ever experience anyhting so magical again. I hope to, though.
