Oxycontin & others -- opiate wuss -- Big Beautiful Blahs

Duration -- three days or so. Exact dose of Oxycontin unknown. Excuse imprecision below. No opiate tolerance.

Oxy became available and appealing for spiritual and hypnotic effects. On top is booze, smoke and eaten cannabis, benzos, Reactine. Have enjoyed oral opiates very occasionally over many years.

Acquired some recently as a gift along with some anti-inflammatories. Let's skip those.

The oxy high is very smooth. Very sweet. Opiates have always seemed like too much trouble. But after a few days of using low doses they do seem VERY NICE. A gorgeous warmth, a basic comfort.

Weird to take other stuff on top. Booze is stinky. Took a few quick shots today and puked. Why bother with it? Pizza flew out my nose. Decided to have a couple of beers, went and got some cans of a decent German blonde. Walking through liquor store made me think, Why not bottles w/ MDMA or bhang? Why not a decent opiate beverage? Or a selection of psychotropic mushrooms? So much room given to endless varieties of booze. Such a bore. The beer is nice though.

Trying Oxy again after a few years does make me understand the whole junky thing of lying down staring at your feet or the (non)spot on the wall. The sense of gentle openness is so pleasant compared to booze, and an interesting alternative to weed or benzo stonedness. The Oxy does seem a lot like Xanax to me.

Did some drawing while high on it over last few days. The work seemed fine. Maybe a nice slowing down of consciousness -- abstract drawing went really well and some pointillist colour exercises were fun.

Is the joy going to run out? Yeah. Soon. The pills will be gone. Not worth getting more. Right now a very slight physical tolerance has set in (nice! no nausea!). A pot cookie has another nice area of the brain humming gently. No depression. Maybe a mild sadness or soft gloom, the sky is overcast today, but the basic life operations so far are fine. The ganja is going nice around the head. Again, gentle. Soulful hiphop. Glowings glow.

The opiate high is a grace. This very mild run will be over within a day or two. Will try to avoid for at least a few months.

Yeah, it's a basic peace thing. The spiritual reasons are basic existential angsts. The racing thoughts of "why?" and "what does it mean?" go slow slow slow. Questions of meaning -- an area I dwell on in unhealthy degrees -- seem quite, uh, meaningless. And not in a drunken - HAW HAW, fucking fuck off way or a cerebral psychedelic laugh or cry about the fundamental absurdities. Instead it's just a soothing slow flow.

I've never found opiates or tranquilizers to be 'spiritual' in the sense that some of the psychedelics or cannabis or other substances with "content" are, but the basic calm warmth and dreamy patience do facilitate some kinds of spiritual, intellectual, and aesthetic experience.

It's good not to worry.

and props to you for drawing on it, i like drawing too on the opiate buzz. you oughta post a pic of what you drew, i'd like to see it..

i know what you mean about oxy seeming like xanax, but oxy i feel more on the plus side cause it doesn't fuck w/ my memory as much!
 
^^^I need to figure out how to scan drawings pretty soon, so will try to post them. I found there to be an ease because so little meaning ws being attached to each step. The drawings were primarily abstract & wordless. Cartoony dada poem doodles are my blood, so wordless drawings are an accomplishment. Also, interested to hear someone else with oxy/xanax parallel experience. You're absolutely right about the memory thing. The Xanax trip, especially is booze or weed are added, is quite amnesiac.

For everyone else: Thanks all for the nice comments. I've written psychdelic reports before, to greater or lesser success, but I believe this was my first on or about opiates. The stomach was a fucking wreck after a couple of days. Not sure what contributed -- may have been some doobie induced overeating combined with a slowdown of the digestive system. I ate the last of the Oxy and then ended up getting buying a bottle of generic Tylenol 1s (325mg acetaminophen + 8mg codeine) to ease the discomfort and stabilize the gut. Things have been fine since.
