OF COURSE on BL you are going to get all these people saying "morphine sucks orally" and "oxy is way better" and all this.
If you are taking your medication as prescribed for pain relief, then its pretty definitive that on average, 60mg oral morphine/day = 40mg oral oxycodone/day.
Also, there is not 100% cross-tolerance so immediately when you start the morphine, it will likely be slightly stronger. This will quickly fade but I have gone from oxycodone to morphine for necessary pain relief and used the same conversion ratio that your doctor did.
I see you're pretty new so welcome to bluelight! This truly is an amazing community where you can learn a lot and meet some great people. I also have chronic pain so if you have any questions or just want to chat about this stuff, feel free to IM or email me sometime. Also check out the
Pain Management Mega Thread in Other Drugs... there is a lot of great information and discussion about many issues regarding chronic pain.
For future reference, here is an online
Narcotics Converter. You simply put in the dose and route of one opioid medication and it will tell you the equivalent in another opioid.
EDIT:
I also just wanted to include that oxycodone and morphine do have slightly different effects. Oxycodone, compared to other opioids, is generally considered less-sedating and some people even find it energizing (this is usually dose dependent, if you take a lot it of course will make you drowsy).
Morphine on the other hand. is a more sedating opiate. If you are taking appropriate doses for medical purposes than this should not be much of an issue, especially since you are already tolerant to the oxycodone. You may feel a little drowsy at first but if you are taking them regularly, you will build up a tolerance to the sedating side effect rapidly.
