so i have done some research & found out oxycodone is 1.5x stronger than morphine, but since the oral BA of oxycodone is so much higher than morphine how would that effect the high? because i get a much stronger high off of 30mg of oxy compared to 45mg of morphine which is supposebly the equivalent. any info please?

Anyone know how this would effect the high?

There are other factors besides potency to consider. The half life of morphine is longer then oxycodone so morphine will last longer and keep you out of withdrawal longer. Also oxycodone tends to kick in faster orally for most people orally and is generally not as bad for causing side effects such as itching or constipation.

Besides potency and half life it's all down to personal taste pretty much.

Hey you've posted something similar before. Well either way, most people prefer oxycodone over morphine because the bioavailbility of morphine orally is pretty low (for whatever reason). IV morphine is more potent than oxy's like in a hospital setting (i would know). Also oxycodone's kick in faster and last shorter than morphine maybe that's why a 30mg oxy you "feel" more than 45mg morphine. Also if oral morphine bioavailbility is only like 20-30% than out of a 45mg you probably are only getting like a full 20mg at most.

Choose what works for you, i still prefer morphine more than oxy's because it is more euphoric to me and pain relieving. But than again i don't do either often and have no tolerance to either.

Those are usually equianalgesic charts. Not equieuphoric. They are vastly different beasts, with different highs. Regardless of bioavailability ORAL oxycodone is only 1.5 times stronger than ORAL morphine. The charts take things like BA into account.

I often wonder why is are percocets so commonly prescribed for injuries instead of like morphine 15mg or 30mg instant release. I just had a customer at work tell me he got prescribed 150 7.5 percocets for a broken leg and is able to get them for upto 1 year and then taper off with vicodin which is also being prescribed like 90 7.5/500.

Besides the fact that it shocks the shit out of me that he was prescribed so much percocets and vicodin (he is older, and an ex vietnam veteran) I often wonder do they even ever prescribe morphien for injuries/surgeries instead of percocets. In the show intervention the canada version someone was talking about morphine being more prescribed than percocets.

When i had my gallbladder removed (due some stones in their) I got IV morphine every 4 hours 2 days prior to surgery (besides the first few times, i couldn't feel it anymore) and after the surgery they prescribed me 30 7.5mg percocets which i had them to change to tylenol 4 60mg codeine, since they would not change it to 15mg morphine which i noticed is less abused then percocets, yet they hand those out a lot more than morphine.

Morphine is a chemical of the plant that brings relief as well as thebaine. Thebaine as a substance is much stronger. Morphine is prescribed but not as common just because it is more sedative than euphoric because of this. That is why if you take oxycodone and then take hydrocodone you will not feel anything from the hydrocodone because the morphine receptors are no match to the thebaine receptors. When you talk about personal taste you are talking about comparing the amounts - 5 mg of morphine will be a steady relaxed ride, 5 mg of thebaine will cause you to go up and then down like a car driving over a big hill. Can't forget that some generics are stronger than others.

They act on the same receptors. That's why hydro "cures" oxy withdrawal. It's no mystery. They are all opiates. And when I boost my oxy high with hydro, you can bet I feel it.

Thebaine receptors? I guess you hear something new every day. Well, I am sure there are 'thebaine receptors' but the naturally occuring isomer of thebaine (i.e. what is in poppy) has strychnine-like effects...not mu effects.

Different taste for everyone. FOR ME morphine provides more pain relief and even a more euphoric high than oxy's. But most people prefer oxy's. But then again i don't and never had a tolerance for opiates, if you have a tolerance for oxy's it probably will take much more morphine to achieve the effects.

Im not surprised the 30 mg oxy felt stronger than the 45 morphine because iv taken 45 mgs of morphine with no tolerance without throwing up but 15 mg oxy made me throw up once, could be that the morphine was time release and the oxy was ir but i didnt see u specify which
