Oxycodone, Tramadol, and Kratom: Am I kidding myself?

2-3 years ago I started using Kratom. Also, because I do not trust the medical industry, I was able to get 3 bottles of Tramadol (50 caps, 100 mgs each). I have been in situations where I needed pain meds and did not get any so that is why I have the Tramadol stashed. For example I have a surgery coming up and the doctors are actually proposing only giving me Motrin. I have absolutely zero history of opiod addiction, but many doctors seem to be just nuts over this issue. I have spoken with others who have had the same surgery and they basically say that doctors who do not give pain meds for the procedure are no different from Nazi doctors torturing people in camps. Over about a 2 year period I used 1 bottle of Tramadol.

I also have 35 30 mg Oxycodones. I do take 4-5 grams of Kratom about 4 days per week. I don't take the Oxy's on any kind of schedule because I read on this forum that doing so can lead to addiction. For example, if you take them twice a week, you will spend the other days you don't thinking about the days you get to take them, which is a form of addiction. I probably will take them about once a week, or maybe every 5 days or so. I will take 2 and then one more an hour later.

So I am saving the Oxy's for when I have had a really bad day or something hurts. I am an older bodybuilder, and something always hurts...but honestly I get pretty good pain relief from the Kratom.

However, am I kidding myself? Am I really just slowly on the path to addiction. As mentioned, I really do live with a solid amount of pain and will probably go see a pain doctor at some point.

If you’re only taking them when you really need them and actually stick to your cautious approach to their use I don’t see you becoming addicted. Kratom is kind of a slippery slope though because it acts on opioid receptors and it can pretty quickly become “not enough” and with access to actual, stronger drugs your 4x a week kratom habit could turn to a 4x week Tramadol or Oxy habit.

Reading back through your post now though, it seems that at least 5 out of 7 days of the week your opioid receptors are saturated with something and you have at the most 2 off days. That’s at the very least bordering the line of dependence, obviously it can’t be full dependence otherwise you’d know it on your 2 days off but I’d be careful and maybe cut an extra day off the Kratom if possible. In case you’re unaware, Kratom is cross-tolerant with prescription pain meds, so they will raise your tolerance, though I’d say you’re on a pretty light Kratom dose. But your oxy dose is pretty large for somebody who’s fairly opiate naive and definitely disproportionately large to be that high from a mild Kratom dose.

Thanks. I was wondering about the Kratom. Since I had taken it so long I thought I was OK, but I feel pretty crappy on the days I don't take it (5 grams). I only took 3 grams the other day and didn't feel that great either. I figured that as long as I rarely did the strong stuff I was OK but it seems I have to really watch the Kratom as well.

For starters I think I will reduce the 5 grams to 4.
