I was talking to an older guy today, late 50's probably, and he was telling me that he had been smoking cigarettes since he was 7 years old. We got onto the subject of his parents, whether or not they would let him smoke and what he would do if he did not have tobacco to smoke. He then explained to me that he believed he was addicted to the act of smoking and not tobacco or nicotene itself (which i found quite interesting) and told me he would smoke random plants and tea leaves if he couldnt get hold of tobacco.

I was wondering if anybody here smokes anything other than weed or tobacco and if so, what? What is it like? I just found the whole thing quite interesting as the only other thing I have smoked was oregano which i put in a bong as a dare during a session once. Anywho, discuss away.

Js&Rs

i used to add different ingredients in the past.

damiana
lions tail (wild dagga)
passionflower
Lobelia inflata L (Indian tobacco)
wild lettuce
sceletium tortuosum

Most of these are pretty mild or subtle, whichever way you look at it. Sceletium is pretty nice if you're feelng a bit low.
If you ever get the chance, have a look at 'Plants of Love' by Christian Ratsch. In the back there's some interesting looking combinations/recipes

I know it probably sounds strange, but I got into a habit of smoking syrian rue seeds on their own through a bong every day until I ran out of them. They got me stoned. Most people don't enjoy harmala on it's own, but I did. They taste better than many seeds would if you were to try to smoke them, I would imagine, and they burn them as insence in Iran.

I had damiana and blue lotus for a little while. neither of which really did anything for me, but I liked using damiana to add to joints instead of tobacco

And the winner is...

BEST ALTERNATIVES FOR CANNABIS SMOKERS:

1. Damiana: It's legal too buy and smoke in US. Works best with BONGS (you need to smoke a little more than usual, so just go big---it works!). Also has a very sophisticated taste.

I smoked ground nut meg seeds once when I was 14. I didn't do anything but smoking things is fun, I've heard people say that they just like smoking things, not necessarily the high from smoking it. I under stand completely. I love to smoke things. I think tobacco is ok but I'll smoke it on occasion just to smoke something. I prefer smoking the flower from cannabis plants though.

alright my friend moved to Louisiana and he couldnt smoke the whole time he was there. and one day he found this shit called supernova. and he said he got it from a headshop in his town. and he said there wasnt any THC in it. but he said it got you caked as shiiittt.. he brought a g down with him.. and he let two of our friends smoke it (i had to work) but i went to his house after. and they had finished the last bowl. and they looked pretty lit..but does anyone know what the fuck supernova is??

I've been vaping out of an e-cig, it really should be called an e-hookah. I love the flavors you can get (peach is AWESOME), and the choice of having no nic in your solutions.

Some stranger I was chatting with on the street mentioned that he makes his own simple smoking blend from common kitchen herbs: he uses two parts peppermint, one part lavender, and one part chamomile, and one part catnip.

The dried herbs are ground in a kitchen mortar and pestle, and rolled into a cigarette. Smoked alone, the blend provides a lovely taste, and a pleasant, relaxing feeling which lasts more or less for the duration of the smoke, or a bit longer. Perhaps about ten minutes.

This blend may also be smoked with cannabis or with tobacco, and is useful for flavouring, cigarettes, diluting strong cannabis, or extending one's supply.

Occasionally he will add mugwort to the blend. This detracts somewhat severely from the flavour of the blend, but it provides an interesting sedation/stimulation unique to mugwort. Not always the most pleasant herb, but certainly an interesting one.

I think that smoking teabags is a rite of passage for many young kids. Also, a friend of mine is currently detained in a psych ward and has taken to smoking rosemary as a cannabis substitute. He claims it actually gets him high...the power of positive thinking...
