Original Sin
By Eric West
God bit into the apple
To experience the Truth
His mouth was filled with venom
Yet he did not regret the fruit
Adam was created
When the day became the night
The waters were divided
Thus began man's plight
The sins of every man
Reflect those of his father
Can it be called evil?
If we've had no other model?
If we came from God?
From what then were we made?
God's thought, love, will his materials
Dust and ribs his spade
The breathe of life awakes us
The divine spark is bestowed
But it cannot be measured
Its immaterial I'm told
So if it doth not reside in me
Wherein does it lie?
I find it in your smile
And the twinkling in your eye
There is only one creation
Though its boundless, infinite
And God is all around us
The universe his net
If in Eden's Garden
There was no knowledge of Good and Evil
How then was it sinful?
To be tempted by the devil
Do we hold a child responsible
If he doesn't know the rules?
Perhaps the Garden was a metaphor
For being granted the power to choose
