Hi there, i have a friend called Nick, he is only 17 years old and has been smoking fentanyl patches for 2 years now. Its weird, ever since he first tried opiates they didnt work on him, he sniff a whole oc 80 with no real tolerance and barely feel it, like a natural tolerance, the only one that works now is fent.

Well things are getting bad, hes doing them very regulary, even though they are very expensive he just tells me 'He doesnt care', he also recently failed school and is currently doing nothing. Hes started paying with fake bills, even to a friend :(

I dont know what to do, what happened to that young, attractive, intelligent young man that used to just dabble with a bit of mephedrone or gbl, but the fent has just taken him in and he refuses help, poor lad, hes turned into a hermit and does nothing apart from crave fentanyl.

Opiates have a way of doing that, and it's scary, I can now look back at times when I was completely ruled by opiates and didn't even know, people around me didn't even know it, it didn't matter what I was doing my mind was always on it's next fix. Strong opiates are like a replacement for life, when you get caught up in a habit it's like that is all you need, and it works until you can't get anymore. Sometimes it just stops working anyway. There are many here who have been much further down this path than I have, but I have been strung out enough to know the power those drugs have over the user.

I don't know what you can do, don't get too sucked into his drama because he'll most likely use your compassion as a way too keep his habit going.

In my experience people only quit when they are ready to quit, and even when they are ready to quit there may be years of going back and forth. It's tough, be there for him but don't put up with any of his bullshit or sob stories that are attempts to get you to help him get more opiates.

I'm sure others will weigh in with better advice, that's just my two cents at the moment.
