Opiate withdrawal after 10 days of use?

Hey Guys-
Looking for some advice and feedback on how much I should believe this guy (a friend, term used losely). I’m kind of a sucker with a big heart, so I’m bouncing this off BL in hopes of some clarification:
He’s a fentanyl addict who just had nine months clean after many years of use and relapsed about 10 days ago..during which time he has done nothing but nod (except when he uses meth and then he hallucinates too, which is a real treat). He is now saying that I don’t understand fent, and that he now needs a methadone treatment program in order not to be dopesick for a week. Of course the programs don’t let you in unless you have used for 6+months..so he’ll have to lie to get into it. Tell me if thats possible? 10 days of fent use after 9 months clean and he needs methadone? Thats crazy riiiiggghhtt??? Hit me!

Can only talk about heroin never did fent but unfourtunatly once you have had a habit on a certain drug you get used to it i can use heroin hard for 3 days and that is enough for me to feel it in wd. If i only used for a week solid that be enough for me to have bad withdrawals.

Well he's kind of right. If he had a past fentanyl habit and did a 10 day fentanyl binge he will get sick and buprenorphine will make him sicker, in the immediate sense.

Most likely its been longer than 10 days though

Methadone could be appropriate but buprenorphine should probably be tried first

Ahh shit. Thanks guys. I’ve been calling bullshit on his theory for 5 days and now I feel kind of shitty. Really didn’t think that was long enough…but you’re right, prolly has been longer than 10 days. He’s staying away from bupes for an intense fear of protracted wd.

Former addict here, I felt the wds after 3 Days Fentanyl. Were they mostly in my head? You bet. Were they mostly felt in my body? You bet

I returned to moderate daily Kratom use however I didn't feel fully normal for another 3 days

Sure they may be a little sick for a week, but how long and how sick will they be sick getting off the methadone?

Not what I would do and it would be interesting to hear how they handle methadone after such a short time back on fent.

I think he should try taking kratom first, it would probably get rid of most of the withdrawals, methadone is too much for a ten day habit, he could also go get a script for clonidine and gabapentin and between those three drugs he should be able to tough it out.

^Probably could just jump with negligible effects. They may be looking for treatment for longer term opiate addiction rather then a ten day dependence.

Kindling effect is a real bitch, every time u get hooked and quit gets harder and harder the next time.
Like yibacity said its the same for me, if I bang for 3 days straight im fucked. If he's been ivong for 10 days he'll most likely get wds. We(10+years addicts) can't chip anymore. I thought for years I could use just fucking once again and when I realized I was knee-deep in shit again.
