I have been using opiates, for the most part consistently, for about the last year and a half. Earlier this week (about 4 days ago) I found out that I am pregnant. I'm trying to kick, and was already planning on just sucking it up and doing a hard detox. Now that I know that I'm pregnant, I want to kick even more so. However I know that detoxing has a high risk of causing a miscarriage. I was going to use suboxone, but I have been told that it's not safe for the baby, and that methadone was the way I needed to go.
I have been able to get methadone, but I do not want to take it full term. I've been researching a lot and have learned so far that the safest time to do my detox is during the second trimester, and to wean down, dropping my dose 10% every few days.... I haven't started doing that yet though. I'm just starting the methadone tomorrow.
I am scared of CPS involvement and having my baby taken away. I have a wonderful, supportive, and able family behind my back to help me all the way, and I'm scared that they will overlook that and the fact that I don't want to walk down the using path anymore, and just look at the fact that I am an addict. I'm going to talk to my doctor when I see her for my appointment this week, because my private insurance is paying for it, so all the information will be confidential. However, I'm getting booted off the insurance soon and will be on DSHS Medical Coupons and everything I tell my doctor after that point is reported to them.
I just want to get some feedback and thoughts from anyone else who knows about this or has experienced it.
**Also, forgot to add. I am 8 weeks and 3 days today. Due in March 2011.
