I have been trying to get off of heroin and really have felt like shit so a friend recommended I take an adderall to give me a little much needed energy...Did I just set my self back w that? Is it the same thing? Are the 2 drugs in the same family? O and on top of that I'm using suboxine to quit which I heard is an even hard thing then the heroin to kick...WTF? If anyone has any helpful answers please let me know

Hey.. check out the recovery section on this forum for stuff like this. Probably better suited to what you are looking for.

Anyway to answer your question, adderall will not set back your heroin withdrawals. Adderall is not an opiate, it's a stimulant. That being said, you have the right idea, be very careful about switching from one drug addiction to another because it's very easy to replace. A lot of people have used drugs like adderall to help them quit opiates because it gives them energy like you say, you just need to be careful and not to go over 20mg a day or so. (double check these numbers! I could be way off.)

Quitting without any supportive substances is the best way, IF you can do it. Most people can't and go on drugs like suboxone which is in the same class of drugs as heroin to help taper them off so they don't have to go through some bad withdrawals.

Anyway I'm not an opiate addict so I can't really help you much further than that, you are much better off posting somewhere like Sober Living - http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/forums/269-Sober-Living

edit:

People say suboxone is harder to quit because the withdrawals are longer, but they are typically less severe.

Adderall is an amphetamine, heroin is an opiate, they're very different. I wouldn't recommend using adderall for quitting heroin as you may come to rely on it more and more even after you've completely quit the H. Just my 2 cents...

I traded my heroin addiction for a methadone addiction. Yea its a replacement addiction but i can function at a more normal level using that as opposed to heroin. For me, its a start in the right direction, like starting suboxone. I wouldnt be as worried with the subs as I would with the adderall becoming your new habit. I know quite a few people who have used stims to get off H, and thry got off of it but just traded it for a new monkey.

i got off heroin right before new years and got on bupe, even though i was only a 2-3 times a week, non-IV user(except the last time i used, i did IV, who else can say that? ;))

currently tapering off of bupe, down to 1mg a day

add/adhd might not exactly be what you thought it was, i never thought i had it, just could not relate to those who claimed to suffer from it, than i took the test and it hit me...i realize the test is almost impossible to 'fail', but it was so easy to relate to the questions that were presented

bupe doctor rx'ed me Adderall in February and i can honestly say that Adderall may have saved my life, my mental health is at an all time high, i sometimes go to mental health support groups now, mostly because of my ability to help others understand their troubles and concerns - the feedback I've received from counselors and those attempting to recover has been extremely flattering

feels good to be able to finally do the things that were previously crippling, have finally been able to ween away from unhealthy relationships, and instead have made a strong push to strengthen relationships with people who are supportive and healthy to be around
i was never a big drinker, but since starting amp use, i have not gotten drunk since, i'll still drink, just rarely more than 3 drinks

the one negative/neutral side effect is lack of appetite, i recommend taking a daily multi vitamin and making conscious efforts to maintain a healthy diet
I've lost 10-15 pounds over 6 months, i wasn't overweight, and am not currently close to being underweight - current BMI appears to be almost perfect, my old diet was very poor, appetite suppression may be a good thing

i'm not encouraging that the OP seeks out an Adderall script, it's not for everyone, but if she decides to go the amphetamine route, please use with caution and don't go into it with poor intentions

Adderal is a stimulant and heroin is an opiate.
and?

one of those is a surrendering vice, potentially putting an end to your dreams
the other is a game of cards with minor stakes, risk just may be worth the reward, if you get dealt a shitty hand, you'll probably bounce back

To the OP:

Like 95% of the time the habit you pick up next will be just self-destructive. The only crucial part is finding the next decent habit to do next, for some that's not easy.

If you're old, fat, ugly, and/or terminal you have less healthy options.
