I've been a pretty stable polydrug user over the past few years taking every piece of cognitive candy I can get. I just started taking Lexapro (an SSRI) again to help heal the changes I've made from all my partying, which drugs should I avoid while I'm on this med?

Make sure you avoid MDMA / ecstasy. This like SSRI's work on the serotonin receptors. If you do it will quickly reduce your serotonin levels to near zero and you'll feel really depressed. A friend of mine once did this and couldn't take it so he jumped out in front of a lorry but somehow managed to survive. Scary stuff.

If you really want to heal, you should stay away from all recreational drugs. That's why you're taking Lexapro, right? Your medication won't work if you continue to dabble with getting high.

Well, I'm on Lexapro and I personally think it's ok to use certain recreational substances BUT...since you are on Lexapro as you say to HEAL from past drug use your really probably should not use drugs if that's your purpose.

It's NOT why I take Lexapro so I feel it's ok for me to sometimes use SOME drugs.

I sometimes use Phenibut, Weed, had used Kratom before the ban, alcohol, and a few others and I don't feel like my medication doesn't work because I use those things, just being honest.

AVOID at all costs a whole number of things like: DXM, MDMA, MDA, ANY and all MAOIs, a large percentage of Serotonin releasers, and a number of other drugs.

But I think MOST psychedelics are USUALLY ok as long as they aren't heavy serotonin releasers, weed is fine, nitrous is fine, I wouldn't strongly advise you to use much alcohol but i can get away with it.

Those are only some answers.

Just be SMART.

All good advice here thus far. Do avoid any drug that increases your serotonin as you do have a risk of serotonin syndrome, which believe me, is no fun. Avoid alcohol and if possible, avoid other drugs as well if you really want to reap the full benefits of an anti depressant. You can google drug interactions pretty easily as well. I've included one here for you.

If you want to heal yourself from all the partying you did, or any damage you may have done via taking drugs avoid all drug use. Stay safe.

You can drink in extremely low amounts like 1 drink, or maybe 2 at the most, and smoking herb is not bad for you but it's best not to abuse or use any drug frequently or daily.

this is my expierence with SSRIs: when I was on Zoloft, and paxil and different times I was unable to fully get high on opiates, I would get the 40min buzz, then completely drop off with no afterglow, or I would just be super irritable instead of high. MDMA is another one
