Bupe On Low Daily Dose od Bupe, Doc Presribed me Codeine, Should I Worry About Precip. WD?

hi guys,
I have a bit of an odd situation and need some advice regarding whether I need to worry about causing precipitated withdrawal.

I take about 2mg of bupe per day (split up into 4-5 small doses throughout the day).
Last night I had an injury and had to go to the ER to get stitched up. Of course they would not give me anything for pain once i told them I was on subutex...but that's another matter.

Anyhow, I called my primary care doc today (she doesnt know im on subutex) and she called in a script for tylenol 3's (30mg of codeine per pill).

So I took about 1mg of subutex earlier today, and just now took 3 of the tylenol 3's (90 mg codeine). My question is whether or not I have to worry about when It take my next dose of bupe.

On one hand I know that bupe has a much higher affinity for mu receptors and so in theory it could rip the codeine off of my receptors and cause withdrawal. On the other hand, I already have bupe in my system from my earlier dose today, so why should it matter if I take more?

Anyone have any input regarding whether I need to be careful about when I dose my bupe next? Is it a concern, or can I take more bupe whenever I want since I already took some earlier today before the codeine? Thanks-DG
 
Just be careful and very SLOWLY re-dose on bupe to prevent the chance of PWDs. If you do it slow there is hardly any risk.

The fact that u suggest I make sure to re-dose slowly suggests that you think that I in fact could cause precipitated withdrawal in this situation. Since the bupe is already in my system from earlier today I dont really see how taking more bupe now could cause precip wd. Perhaps there is something I am not considering. Anyone else?-DG

^^^Hes right on that one, slow is almost always safe.....

...but also, as long as you just keep taking your sub doses like normal you wont have to worry about PW's.....and since your on low doses of suboxone, you will probably feel the codeine alot stronger than the average sub maintanence patient. Just make sure you dont take codeine for an extended period of time (like 3 days or more) while not taking your suboxone....in that case, the sub would have had enough time to slowly disappear from your receptors, leaving you with nothing but codeine in your brain.....and obviously, the next time you dose some suboxone you will go into precipitated withdrawal.....not good.

I think he was just sayin that to be safe.

Even though its not possible for you to get PW's as long as you keep taking your suboxone, its ALWAYS a smart idea to take things slow when it comes to drugs in general.
 
Not at all. As james brown pretty much said, you only got to worry about that if you take the codeine and not the sub for awhile then decide to take the sub. But as long as you're taking the sub, no.
 
Don't go over 60mg of codeine or the pain relief will not be as good. Take 2x and re-dose after 5 hours. If you are paranoid about taking 1g of Tylenol each time you can CWE 2.5 pills and drink, same, re-dose after 5 hours.
 
thats odd, i went to the ER and got a script for Darvon, and i tried to fill it, and the pharmacist seen i was on suboxone, and would NOT fill it, i called my sub doctor he said it wouldnt help with my pain anyways due to the suboxone. "just fill the darvon and give it to ur girl or something" he said lol, so i filled it and paid cash.
