I speak for the entire male race when I say this: physicals suck. I needed to have a physical done in order to join the track team. I walk into my doctors office, expecting that the worst part of the visit would be when my 70 year old doctor puts his cold, clammy, shaky hands on my junk for 3-5 seconds. But no, the worst part by far was when the doctor told me, my mom and my twin brother that I had LOST 20 POUNDS since last years visit.

Now Im a pretty tall guy at 6'3", and I went through this whole year assuming that I weighed my regular 160 pounds.
My mother bought a scale recently and I am actually only 137 pounds right now, which is underweight for someone my height, and is even underweight for someone 3 inches shorter than me. My forearms and wrists are so skinny that I am embarrassed to wear short-sleeve shirts.

THE DILEMMA

Quit adderall(go back to doing bad in school)and get healthy again or Struggle to gain weight but Get As and Bs in school

Any advice would be awesome!

PS: I am going to graduate in a bit so I will have plenty time to get healthy again PSS: I am also very sorry if this is in the wrong section. Im pretty new.
;)

why say no to anorexia?
with adderall you can eat shit and dont put weight because your appetite is suppressed anyway, better to be skinny than a fatty.
..maybe xD

What dose are you on? You could try lowering it and see if that helps. Weight loss is one of the MAIN side effects off adhd meds. Are you eating 3 meals a day? If not force yourself to, maybe a little extra, and help your self to a good sweet treat such as a milkshake at night...Also maybe change ADHD meds, like try Focalin, or Vynase and see if you notice any difference with your weight. I was on Focalin and adderal(not at the same time). I would snort through my Focaclin in 2-3 day(kinda made me sick at my stomach the same way cocaine does) and go through my 60 adderal 10's through snoring sometimes eating in 5-6 days. My suggestions, start your day off with a Big healthy breakfeast, eat a good lunch, and eat something like steak for dinner if you can. Also add a big ass milkshake at the end of the day... Oh and take vitamins of course, but everyone should do that rather or not on adhd meds, need to start myself.

The recommended weight for my height is anywhere around 160-190. Being underweight is not a good thing to be. People that are underweight have an increased risk for heart disease, diabetes, lowered immune system, low muscle growth, fatigue and brittle bones. I want my 160 back :)

137 at 6'3 is pretty skinny, I'm 5'10 & around 150 and I consider myself to be skinny...

I'm not sure that it's underweight to an extent that it would have a detrimental effect on your physical health, though.

I am about the same height and I was almost in tears once when a nurse told me I weighed in at 130 lbs. I was at a clinic during an Adderall crash so I was already emotionally confused.

I remained on Adderall and gained the weight back up to about 145-150, but I probably lowered the dose a little, so it is possible.

Drinking a high-calorie protein shake once a day could help, since chewing and swallowing on amphetamine is very difficult.

It is possible to gain lbm while on stimulants, the real key is nutrition and rest. Since you're lanky man, eat at least 3-4 grams of protein per body weight you wish to be at. Get it within several meals a day, try 3 solid, 2 liquid. Exercise; train, nothing great was ever given, it was discovered or earned. Stay safe, stay informed.

You're misinformed, 3-4 grams of protein per lb of body weight? 130lb x 4g of protein would be 520g's of protein which is 2100 calories in just protein per day. His maintence caloric intake is probably under 2000 calories at 130 lbs. a good diet has a balance of complex carbs, good fats, and protein.

1 gram of protein per pound of body weight is more then enough for someone who isn't lifting heavy weights multiple times a week.

Even if you are talking in kilos, 4 grams per kilo is still way to much. 2.2g per kilo should suffice. Get the rest of your 2k calories from lean meat and whole wheat bread/rice/veggies. You can also make 1000 calorie weight gainer shakes with whole oats, peanut butter, whole milk, veggies/fruits, and whey protein powder. Or buy a weight gainer shake in powder form from your local GNC or health supplement store.

When training and on stimulants and supplements*not roids* I would ingest roughly 4000-5000 calories a day.

Correct, 40/40/20 ratio works well for protein, complex carbohydrates, and EFA's. This guy needs to gain some weight. My father is flipping 64 5'3" no more and weights about what the OP does.

I'm on a cocktail of medications but the one medication I hate/love the most is my Adderall IR. I have an extremely high tolerance to them since I've been taking them since I was in 9th grade, really fucked me up in the head as well as keeping me skin and bones. I hate the crash from adderall and I hate the weight loss. I have lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks due to my extra stress, change in meds, and all this has led up to me not eating but once a day and with extreme effort. Even after 6 joints of Blue Cheese I was still unable to keep food down. The smart side of me says stop taking this shit or at least taper down and not take it everyday so my tolerance goes away. Then my dark side which is usually the side I follow is telling me to eat more pills! So I do. I already have a sped up metabolism and the medications for my bi polar only speed it up more then the suppressed appetite from the Adderall IR is just the cherry on top for me looking so skinny.

There is a massive amount of studies proving that ingesting more then 40-50 grams of protein per meal is just a waste, and this guy isn't lifting at all as far as I know, and he weighs 130 pounds. Either way, I don't care how much you train, if you are eating 4 grams of protein per pound of body weight, you are shitting out a hell of a lot of protein. You must have been huge if you were training on a 4000-5000 calorie diet. (The good huge, not fat).

But unless your Ronnie Coleman, eventually you are going to have to go on a pretty big cut, so I can't imagine adjusting my diet from 5k a day to 2.5k-3k lol. Lot's of stims to suppress appetite I suppose. The legal ones ;) Not 1,3 DMAA ;)

I'd say quit the adderall. I'm a tall and skinny person too but I cannot imagine being that skinny.

If you're going to stay on it then you really need to force more food down. Try to eat 3-4k calories/day and you WILL gain weight if you are consistent. Don't listen to this guy telling you to eat 500g of protein, though. You don't need more than 1-1.5g/lb. Check out http://forum.bodybuilding.com/ if you really want to learn about nutrition.

Protein/nutrition shakes are your friend. Also smoothies packed with vitamin supplements. Though the food aversion should have decreased by now, after a year, definitely ask the psych you got them from about it for advice.

Yep, 1g/lb is more then enough if you aren't on a weight lifting routine imo. In fact, almost all the articles you will read suggesting you should take 1.5-2g's of protein per pound of body weight are actually written from supplement health companies that sell protein powder! Since you are just trying to put some weight back on, you can afford some "cheat" meals that are easy calories as well. Most medium pizza's are well over 1000 calories for example, although I still wouldn't suggest eating them TOO often. A good, healthy diet will make you feel better both mentally and physically. But the nice little bonus of just trying to eat healthy and gain some weight when you don't actually have specific fitness goals you are striving towards, is that you can incorporate your favorite, "not all that healthy" foods into your otherwise balanced diet much more often! And yea, if your appetite is still this suppressed after a year on the meds, you should definitely talk to your doctor about slightly lowering the dose. I know it can be a massive chore to eat on stimulants.

You're mistaken if you think losing twenty pounds in a year is for some reason massively unhealthy just because it was assisted by adderall. Sure, you're on the skinny side, but adderall assisted weight loss isn't less healthy than losing weight through changes to your diet and exercise, and to be honest twenty pounds in a year isn't shocking or even surprising like you imply it is. You're nowhere near having an unhealthy BMI, whereas being overweight makes you unhealthy pretty quickly, you have to be really really fucking skinny for being underweight to have any impact on your health. I'd stay on the adderall and if you're really concerned about your appearence just force down a shitload of protein shakes every day.

Agree with the above just go to a real bodybuilding website for nutrition information and not bodybuilding.com. Bodybuilders are so far and away advanced on topics concerning nutrition and no you don't have to step foot in a gym and unless you are part of the genetic elite you could pump yourself full of roids and still not look like you lift. Nutrition is key. No need to go nuts and gain a bunch of fat. Base it all off of body fat percent, not total weight in pounds. If your truly low single digit bf % then it's not healthy to sustain but a true 8% and up and your good to go.

Adderall is evil. I'm prescribed 60 20 mg IRs a month and as hard as I try to make them last I just can't do it :(

I also tend to lose a lot of weight and don't eat for days at a time. I'm not upset about the weight loss-I actually love it. But the truth is that this is in no way a permanent solution as when you stop taking it you eat like crazy and gain it all back :(

I used to switch off every two months or so to Ritalin 20 mg IR up to 4 a day but I figured out how to IV them and I know how horribly dangerous it is to IV pills. I have since told my doc not to prescribe the Ritalin anymore.

So adderall is definitely a miracle drug if you want to lose weight but it's only short term.

20 pounds in a year is fine. I was losing around 15 in a few weeks and I a short female with a small frame. I wouldn't sweat over that.
