What do you guys think about blending up various veggies and fruits into smoothie concoctions just for the ease of consuming a large quantity of nutrients from a natural source. It can be a pain to try to cook a lot of things together for a nice meal and I'm trying to pursue getting majority of carbs from fruits and veggies. I don't have a problem about cooking my chicken 24/7.

.....I don't think chicken would taste good blended up in a smoothie, however I have not tried it!

I have always followed a rule of thumb that majority of caloric intake should not come from liquids, but I don't remove the pulp or anything. I really just bypass the job of mastication for the ease of digestion.

You can actually buy concentrated greens to put in shakes these days, from the regular supplement companies... not sure how cost effective that is versus just making your own fresh smoothies though?

I can't see anything wrong with doing it... certainly most people are a bit deficient in their greens and fruits so it could be beneficial from a health/nutrition perspective.

Did not know that they had concentrated forms. I've had this bizarre acne breakout lately and absolutely nothing is curing it. So now my last resort is just cramming as much vitamins, minerals and antioxidants into me in a 24 hour period for the next month to see if that cleans me from the inside out.

Ignoring any monitoring of carbohydrates for this period of time. Also cutting out anything starchy for this moment as well. So my carbs are just solely fruits and veggies.

Don't forget mega-dosing of probiotics... can help sort out bacterial acne...

Good thought. I didn't even think about that which now kind of clicks with some other issues. I've had nonstop GI flare ups lately as well. Diarrhea at least 4 times this week already and its the one that you can just tell it has a higher acidity from my stomach acid. lol sorry for that detail..

So far my usual megadosing of B5 is no longer working. I ran out of zinc and copper about a month ago, but I wouldn't assume that it would be the culprit considering I get pretty meticulous about trying to eat well rounded. I'm also going to cut back on calories a little bit because my carbohydrate intake before was getting pretty out of hand. My last refeed ended up lasting a good 48 hours :)

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)??

Who knows. I'd take losing my hair over the constant back itch of my terrible GI tract. Try to enjoy some food and next thing you know my whole body is going ape shit.

I'm a nutritionist (University of New Mexico) and a chef.
Mega dosing of nutrients doesn't seem to be the solution to me.
Simplifying things in your diet to reduce inflammation, create the GI environment for the good gut flora to thrive and the bad to die sounds like a good start.
Obviously, no refined foods, less red meat, elimination of nightshade vegetables, and an increase in beans, legumes, seeds and nuts sounds like a simple first step to me.

thanks for the link Mike and thanks for the input of your knowledge Achilles. It doesn't sound like a bad idea on that concentrate. I wonder if it tastes like chlorella?

What CFC mentioned about SIBO

Would having an environment where unbalance in the stomach between the ratio of "good bacteria" and "bad bacteria" subsequently lead to malabsorption of specific nutrients that may be dependent on various probiotics? I know from what I've read that it can be related to other inflammatory issues (like my acne and upset stomach). Not to derail the thread from the first question, but I've had IBS since I was a kid. One doctor says its Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome another says Irritable Bow Syndrome etc etc..

I don't believe in everything he says and does like the fucking shit loads of vitamins he's most likely just pissing out, but I think he does have good information on a lot of things.

I never watch anything rogan says, never have
i just know its a running joke on the internet everything he says it right lol

Oh ok. I didn't know if you were being sarcastic or not. You should check out some of his shit if you haven't imo. He's no expert on everything but he does have a lot of good insight.

Joe Rogan has always been a different kind of individual. Thanks for that little post nutty. Ha sorry I typed this thing after coming home from a little party. I read through some of my posts and I don't really know where I was going.

My main thought: Would being in a state of disarray with the balance of good bacteria vs. bad bacteria lead to an increase in malabsorption? Or a decrease in digestion efficiency. My local mart doesn't have any kind of probiotics in pill form that don't look absolutely knock off cheap. So I've been destroying Activia yogurt and oats like its my job. It may be placebo, but I've already noticed a difference with how my stomach has been and my appetite is back. By the way it said eat 2x a day for 4 weeks and see the difference per Activia. So I said why not just eat healthier? 6x a day will hopefully speed it up.

On a side note for anyone wanting to shed some weight.... I've noticed that consuming almost 80% of my carboydrates from fruit and non starchy vegetables has made a remarkable difference in body fat (with my little cardio) or its just helping with osmotic regulation because I'm holding little water. The big vein running down the middle of my stomach has slowly come back out.

If you've not done much reading about bacteria, digestion and health before, and you have chronic GI problems, I suggest that be your next major topic!

It's the hot subject of the moment as science begins to appreciate how thoroughly our bodies symbiotically function with the trillions of bacteria that reside within us.

I'd suggest that eating a diverse diet with plenty of substrate for different bacteria to feed on is essential to encouraging the 'right' residents within your GI tract, and to help elbow out the undesirable ones. There seems little point eating billions of bacteria through probiotics if they simply die half way through your guts from starvation...

I do feel a little dumb for never taking the time to read into it. I spent majority of my focus making sure I get adequate fiber, stay hydrated, avoid heavily processed foods. I eat yogurt, but I never really acknowledged if it said it contained probiotics or not. It just tasted good and had a nice macro ratio.
