I hope this is the right place to post this question...i havent been here in years.

So i have been taking this as a Migraine preventative. am now up to 30mg a nite , I really hate the way it makes me feel, kind of "dis-conected....cold hands, Lack of sex drive. also a weird creepy crawly feeling, alot of goosebumps...sorry..its hard to describe.

I was thinking of switching to amatripaline(sp) which is similar....anyone been on this stuff?, any advice?

It is similar, but not quite as strong. They are both trycyclic anti-depressants.

I tried amityptaline and couldn't handle how tired it made me. Was then put on nortriptyline which somehow did the opposite, it gave me insomnia and a racing heart. So now i take it in the morning and i take it with 40mg propranolol. Not been on it long enough to tell if it's helping my headaches yet. But then i have yet to find anything that does!

thanks...i hate the way it makes me feel...most anti-depresants leave me feeling a bit Hollow...but my dr suggested it for my MAV...(migraine associated vertigo) so far its helped about 40%, which i guess is better than nothing.

;-(

There are other drugs that prevent migraine, perhaps better drugs for you.

I've read about a lot of chronic migraine sufferers, it's extremely rare to find something that gets rid of them long term.

True, but alot of them have horrid side effects. i am considering topomax. its all trial & error as far as im concerned. at least the nori helped with the vertigo..i still get daily headaches.

up-date...

so i tried the topomax....for 1 month, horrid side effects! Im now just started Amitriptyline. the 25mg was too strong, so im cutting them in half at night. Too soon to tell if its helping the migraines.

I was on amitriptyline for like 8 months and it helped me in no way as far as headaches were concerned but it helped me sleep a ton better.
