Does the use of Nitrous Oxide cause brain damage? All i have heard so far is conflicting arguments concerning this matter. Please enlighten me....

Go to erowid, they have some great stuff about the dangers of nitrous. Judging by what they say it is pretty safe as long as it is used in moderation....but then again, so is just about anything

You'll be fine unless you abuse it to the point of going through a tank every week or so.
Still, to be on the safe side, even while using it occasionally, you should use the supplement B12 (I think). This helps with the nerve damage that nitrous can cause with over-use.
Overall it's a very safe drug, though. Just be sure to get plenty of air. Lack of oxegyn is a fantastic way to get brain damage.

i think it's niacin. anyway, it's one of the B's, either niacin (B3) or B6... well, definitely a B vitamin.=P
anyway, yes, it causes permanent brain damage, and that brain damage happens to be potentiated by ketamine.

Not sure whether brain damage is poteniated by K, the effects might be as they both indirectly block neurotransmitter glutamine from switching on cells via NMDA receptors.
K protects the brain from damage by it's anasthetic effects tho.

Yes, it does cause permanent brain damage - Olney's Lesions (basically, holes in your brain).
Doing a reasonable (let's say under 100 whippets) amount over a lifetimes (NOT all at once) is unlikely to cause any substantial damage.
For some reason, nitrous oxide depletes vitamin B12, and thus, as B12 is essential to nerve health and function, supplementing nitrous use with extra B12 is a good idea, as some of you mentioned.

just breathing the smogy air of Los Angeles causes brain damage...so shush yer mouf n gimme my balloon already!!!

Peyote,K was right tho.. when you deplete your brain of oxygen, two things can go wrong.. cells die just from lack of oxygen.. and the lack of oxygen causes glutamine levels to rise and that causes more damage... well K (and i'm suspecting maybe n2o also) blocks that from happening, so there is significantly less damage done to the brain than if you were to just hold your breath. and if n2o does this also (from the fact that it is also a nmda blocker), we could assume that it is a safe(r) inhalent (than other crappy inhalents that kill people and make them brain dead and stupid) and remember to get oxygen after each inhalation.

It causes brain damage, but not much more than just holding your breath under regular conditions. Basically a very safe drug.

Double checked on erowid, and it it is vitamin B12 you're supposed to supplement with.
So... HAH!

As stated above, the only damage nitrious can cause is to the nerve endings.
The use of nitrious can result in damage to the brain, but that is from a lack of oxygen to the brain, not from nitrous itself. This damage occurs when you don't breathe enough whilst taking nitrous. Put simply; consider the time you spend from emptying your lungs before you take the nitrous, until you begin breathing again. If that is as long as you can comfortably hold your breath with empty lungs, then you are fine.

It's been stated (to you, even) before that the primate trials are very inconclusive. Ketamine only has side effects in adults. Children do not get the "emergence phenomena" that adults do from anesthetic doses. Young rats did not get brain damage, either. The primates used were young. Karl Jansen's reasons for K not being neurotoxic to humans would not apply to MK-801 because it binds specifically to NMDA receptors, whereas K is very promiscuous.
To the real topic asked, use B-12 because it protects your nerves from the side effects. Long term users who don't supplement with B-12 often experience a constant tingling (unpleasant) in their extremities because of nerve damage done. Other than that, don't hold it in too long, brain cells need oxygen to survive. Carbon Dioxide poisoning might be able to occur from prolonged use of balloons. As with anything, moderation is the key.

I think jansens point was that if MK801 isn't dangerous when it's far more neaurotoxic, then K won't be neurotoxic either.

Please quit assraping threads to discuss ketamine in primates. E-mail the people who offer opposing viewpoints so that you can learn. You obviously know a fair amount about the drug, but you are also far too biased in favor of it. "All drug use
contains inherent risks."-from DanceSafe disclaimer
P.S. assraping is fine if you offer some insight into the original question asked by the poster

n2o is harmless unless you do a fuck load and even then all it does is causes vitamine difficencies. moral of the story is .. don't fucking starve your brain of oxygen when you are inhaling it. breath between puffs.

I suppose you guys want to know the real truth. Nobody really fucking knows what the hell it does to your brain or your nerves. No major long term studies = no funding for research. So you can say all you want, but none of us hear really knows. I do know one thing that bothers the heck outta me: people who take balloons and huff and blow back into the ballonn over and over until they "fish" out due to the lack of oxygen. Real smart. Considering it is a dissociative there is a chance of damage. I really do love the shit though. Definately a hippie-crackhead.

clown, i didn't "assrape" (LOL! by the way) the post, roche said K potentiated brain damage an an earlier post. I replied to that.
At the moment there is absolutely no proof that K causes brain damage in humans. Sure there might be a risk, there might be a risk of brain damage caused by sitting in front of a computer or using a mobile phone too.
