Hey all,

I smoke cigarettes in France and it's an expensive habit to have and obviously bad for me, but I've worked out the numbers and it would be way more economical to just switch to vaping. I don't really know the health risks associated with vaping...

What should I do?

Cigarettes will probably kill you.

Vapes, might kill you?

Ask me again in 30 years.

They haven't been around long enough to 'know', but most medical professionals seem to agree they're safer than cigarettes, and that's the official guidance in my country: not risk free but safer than smoking.

Fwiw I used a vape to quit smoking. Had a 15 a day habit for about 12 years, switched to vaping for 2 years and then quit that once I'd completely stopped thinking about cigarettes and knew it was just the nicotine.

I was more addicted to nicotine than ever by then, but the "habit" and ritual of smoking which had kept me going to back to it had gone and it was just the physical withdrawal I had to deal with.

switch to vaping and at your own pace, reduce the % of nicotine in the vape liquid.

you would probably want a pod device with 50mg nicotine salt.

it is obviously healthier than smoking, not to mention much less stinky.

I gave up ciggrettess, pipe tobacco and vaping for snuff dry tobacco powder, being in the uk i have a vast array of varities to choose from, from afghan and indian or african and english and another supplier caters for US and canadian customers asell as europeans

I've never tried snuff, and the thought of using it isn't exactly appealing, but it sounds like you found it very effective?

However, I'd be willing to bet that the risks from insufflating tobacco are just as dire as those from combustion.

Would you mind expanding upon your use of snuff? I'm genuinely interested in alternative nicotine delivery methods.

Thanks in advance 👍

Snuff is prepared differing varities of tobacco leaf ground ito powder/flour and then its flavoured from plain and very dry or menthol and very moist, you can get fruit flavoured ie orange, lime, lemon, floral like wallflower or rose, coltsfoot whiskey and honey and chocolate to even cheese and bacon scented, its so cheap in uk i can get 100g tub for £10:96, ots still tobacco so still has risks other than lung cancer, but lasts longer sniffing less than the amount in a ciggerette and thus is more economical for price and weight

I have 3 pinches each nostrol every jalf to an hour, if you look it up on youtube there some great blogs and reviews that go quite in depth also there is a snuff forum which is easy to look up

I started vaping to try and sack the ciggies, now I'm hopelessly addicted to both... :\
I managed to get by on a mate's vape all day and only smoked 3 cigs - typically I'm smoking 10+ in a day. I am a bit worried I'll end up addicted to both though.

They used to make it here old way, but the mill run fine.
It where EU regulation s that put a end to it s live as Snort Tobacco mill.
The variety s they had were not flavoured as above mentioned,
which to current standards are the main aroma s: menthol, fruity, Whiskey.

The ingredient s used where more like different Tobacco s, different
fermentation times. 10 year was not abnormal s it was pricey back then.
Bought 2 once, 1 had a spicy additive certain Ginger and Nutmeg.
This was the less strong and most painful one.

The other was a more pure Tobacco blend, stronger.
Think it contained 'Latakia' Tobacco, and snorting well i don t advise.
It s uncomfortable, hurts must not be snorted in but after a time-span.
Ejected via the nose outwards, grosse. Done wrong expect to sneeze.

That way it s also in your nasal cavities, even more painful !

Ps: never had any problem quitting smoking CT, but for those
who have: OTC: Cytisine/ or via dr. Varenicline. Works like a charm.
Smoking on it is weird makes it ineffective just burned fumes.
As the binding affinity of Nicotin is lower, and both med s,
stick to em the whole day.

I recently made the switch back to cigarettes. It's been great I love it. I used chew and dip, but I'm trying to sort of keep my teeth. I think that vapes if you do your own juice and stuff can be healthier. Vape is still pretty bad for you though. If I sit around sucking on one I can feel it in my lungs.

I think snus like Swedish snus is the healthiest way to take tobacco. You can order Swedish snus online.

What about the elf bars and certain disposables causing "popcorn lung" i know that was sort of real because I heard of people getting diagnosed with it. It was kind of serious. I think some of that was the thc carts though.
It's not yet known as someone said above. What is known is how bad cigarettes are so removing them is what causes all the health benefits.

You could also consider nicotine pouches or tobacco chew. Depends on why you smoke I guess, is the addiction based off of nicotine or the action of smoking?

I haven’t done really any research on this so I could be wrong but; if nicotine is the reason, I would assume that nicotine pouches you put on your gum or nicotine patches or even nicotine gum could help you quit smoking.

If you're addicted to the action of smoking, definitely switch to vaping; and then I would consider getting a smoking cessation product. There are many products available, things you can smoke with no nicotine, as well as just flavored air sticks that don’t combust so it helps a lot with an oral fixation.

Good luck on quitting<3

Having just quit vaping - now on nicorette and zyns - I can say that the hardest part of vaping is the fact that you can do it anywhere, there's much less social stigma, and it can embed itself in every activity imaginable, which plays right into the type of addiction that nicotine embodies.

Even without the carcinogens from smoking, it still causes blood pressure increases and tachycardia, increases baseline anxiety/stress, reduces our capacity to cope with stress, can disrupt sleep and hunger cycles, and may have some impact on overall risk of cancer. Even using nicorette could contribute to an increased vulnerability to certain cancers.

As far as quitting vaping, my lungs feel so much more resilient and flexible - they'd become increasingly stiff and rigid, likely as a result of aerosolized plasticy PG/VG combined with the vasoconstricting/bronchialconstricting effects of nicotine. The combined effect made my lungs feel like they were increasingly rigid and would lead to feelings of intense panic when i was trying to catch my breath during a run or a bike ride.
