Drug use rampant at high schools
By JASON FRENKEL and LEELA de KRETSER

SMOKING marijuana is rampant among Victorian high school students, with alarmingly easy access to ecstasy and speed.
A Herald Sun INSIGHT investigation also has been told of daily drug deals in government and private schools across the state.
Drug experts said marijuana use had become a way of life for many students.
The drug problem is such a worry that more than 200 government schools have installed security cameras - up 50 per cent on last year.
And at least one student is expelled for drug offences every 10 school days.

I saw this in the paper BT and read it, and thought hmm who's gunna post about there best friends the herald sun??..
Truely sucks doesn't it, bring awareness to kids who didn't even think about it.,. now they think geez 90% of there mates are doing it, am I the only one who's not??..
HERALD SUN SUCKS!

A nice cut down easy-to-read artical. Typical large, grand, HS style report. Good to see they did some investigation behind it all. I heard the HS (I think editor) on ABC local Melbourne radio this morning talk about how they acted on much anecdotal evidence and then put some resources behind it all. Good for them.
Now if only some media could educate people on these sorts of issues rather than scream headlines at them, then this sort of investigative work would reap larger rewards. As it is, however, it stands under the banner of a very special edition that no parent can afford to miss.
Good on the government for doing a knee jerk reaction though. They could of only done worse by not doing anything. How could something be better done? Well, I think more thought could be put into that. I really don't know. $400,000 is good though, whilst drug reform and true leadership by the government would be sought after (rather than just blindly following the US), drugs really don't belong at schools.

gotta love the headline 'Drug dealing Teens prey on Mtaes'. I mean, I work in the media so I know how it all works, and how hard it is to write a headline without being seen to condone illegal activity, but all through highschool I was the one who sorted my friends out with smoke. I never made any profit (except for maybe a couple of cones), never pushed pot on anyone, never had a fight over drugs (never ever had a physical fight over anything, actually), never got caught, and I graduated with a UAI of 98 (this from someone who smoked close to every 2nd day through high school).
stereotypes truly suck

ummm whats new?
they finally figured that most of highschool is spent in one big drug induced haze?
clap clap for the e-tarded herald sun.
