Ummm has this been done before? If it has I hereby formally apologise for being boring and un-original.
If not - then let the heavens open....
So everyone has a unique style of dancing - some of this, some of that, a little of the other and voila! I love the fact that I can recognise a lot of my friends just by their silhouette when they're dancing.
However, there does seem to be a difference between boyz and girlz dancing.
In general I think boyz stomp more than girlz, I think boyz take up more space as their movements are larger... (although I do like a fair amount of real estate myself *grins* heh heh heh room for mistakes!) There are also certain styles of dancing which I have only ever seen done by boyz.
I think that a lot of boyz dance the same way or quite similarly, whereas most girlz tend to have their own 'unique' styles or adopt steps / moves and personalise them.
Whad'ya reckon?
Also - don't ya just hate it when one night you seem to suddenly have a new move, and try as you might you can't get rid of it??? Then you forget what your other moves were...then you just get totally confused.... or is that the drugs?
Or is that just me?
I think I'm done now.

Actually I find those galz that dance with there feet firmly stuck to the ground to be quite funny. The rest of the body is going nuts but the feet just don't follow. And yes boyz stomp.

i stomp sometimes
but i find the stomp doesnt quite do it for me
im a bouncing, skipping, all over the place, gimme 5 sq meters at least kinda guy
and i do enjoy a charleston knee wobble dance (you know the one when you cross your hands over on your knees while wobbling em sorta.... very coooool)

Guys do stomp
smile.gif
it brings out the agressive side in us... especially when the music gets full intense, and you start to peak... boom
smile.gif
*stomp stomp stomp stomp*, then the beat cuts out, chilled..... then on again, and then comes the bounce

bouncing rocks

but hate it when some other dudes decide to bounce around you and they dont know how to control themselves...

Uh.....hmm.........
well i'm a monkey and all I do is scamper and climp stuff - I have tried to climb on someones head while they're stomping......does that count? Hmmm.........
Aside from the afore mentioned differences between guys and girls dancing styles I also love to sit and drool(again...i'm a monkey)at the seemless agility of little Asian girls........bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce.........my damn tail keeps getting in the way so there is no way i can replicate ANY of their moves! hehehehe
am I alone here?....hmmm.......just an observation........

Just quickly, here's a couple of threads on different dancing styles: http://www2.bluelight.ru/ubb/Forum29/HTML/000098.html http://www2.bluelight.ru/ubb/Forum29/HTML/001104.html
As for differences between girls and guys, there's plenty of differences between girls and girls, and guys and guys...
When I get together with two of my female friends, we always end up doing a kinda coreographed (sp?) routine, because we have a very similar dancing style...
I've seen many girls doing the Melbourne shuffle just as well, and in the same style, as many guys... I've seen guys dance similarly to the way I do, and girls too...
So no, I don't think there's a huge difference between the way girls and guys dance...

I can definitely associate with yourself MadMonkey on the observation of lovely asian ladies,.,,. Mind blowing & Gravity Defying are two phrases I use quite often when describing their 'floating' styles..
As for movin my body,.,. hmmmm stomp stomp stomp, skip skip skip, jump n twist jump n twist jump n twist, waving hands in da air like I just don't care....
u mean there are more moves out there ??

Best dancer I have seen is a asian girl at Live and Wired about 2 months ago. Stompr got a great photo, awesome dancer no matter how fast the music was. And man she was cute too.

I usually think that girls dance a little better then guys, might also mean that I prob notice them more then I do guys. But there are exceptions to the rule. I mean Bass Junky is sooooo cute when he dances

i think its unbelievable just how quickly people take up other peoples dancing styles.
i must admit i am no longer fresh with the original moves. it has become something that i try to pick up again on the odd chance that i get out and have a dance, but i find myself becoming less and less original and more like something you see everywhere down here. ahh well.

ah, the vietnamese chickie, i think u mean Melanie. coupla of my guy friends have found her charms irresistable.
smile.gif

anyway, ive seen girls who dance like guys and guys who dance like girls, so i guess everyone is different and some are similar but noones totally the same.

StompR! is it any surprise... ME TOO!
I always get obsessive with a new move and then forget how i danced before the new move came around... and I find that it happens more when there's funky dancers around
smile.gif
can't be original ALL the time now can we?

yeah, chix dance nice when they move their ass n all that
wink.gif
heheheh
but the guys really get those power-moves goin.
as for me, i wish i could dance. I'll just stick to makin music.

Stompr.. if you are right about the boy stomping/space thing..... then I think I should be an honourary bloke!! (esp. in the early morning hours at a doof)
yeh... on occassion during a night I have picked up a new move, usually I can pin it to someone dancing near me that i have been watching for too long.... moves are infectious

boys are either really good or really bad dancers
smile.gif
ok, that's a bit general, but a lot of the time there's no halfway. boys also have the annoying habit of CUTTING SICK, usually the really bad dancers do this... basically they take up a great deal of space, their arms and legs flailing all over the places, inadvertantly beating other people up in the process, too mashed to know the difference. girls don't do this as much, but then you get the club minxes who stand right in front of you with their gold hot pants and come-fuck-me's and wiggle their arse a bit. of course they can't actually move their feet in some semblance of real dancing because their heels are too high.
inconsiderate dancers suck.

im not the kinda person 2 say a bad word bout ne1 but i get so agitated at the club minxes, like u can feel the music from way up there on those 5 inch spikes?! haha
smile.gif
i would hafta say there is a diff, as i observed @ home on fri nite...girls bop and jump and have a series of moves, while boys just go for it. there is also a difference in style depending on the music. i know myself i groove differently to diff sounds like...say...the diff between the crowd in voodoo and cargo and beat-fix...
oh well...food for skattered thought

Pretty much sums up my night at sublime on friday. I was dancing sooooo much that night, I had to take periodic rests to get some energy and co-ordination back. By 6:30 I wasn't able to dance any more, my mind was still doing laps but my body was like "go near that dance floor and I'll make you wish you didn't".
It's all good though I had a blast!
Getting to the point of this topic...
I don't think there are really many differences between the way chicks and guys dance. There are, I spose, different movements that are shared by neither gender but there are so many moves/styles that I continually see used by both. I dunno I haven't really paid much attention to it, as long as everyones having fun it's all good

Last night I saw a movie called "The dancer"
Incredible dancin.
Ok movie. Good sountrack.
The main character was actually responsible for the Macarena. Dont let that put you off.

Well, Well, Well.
This once again, heightens my desire for a full on Bluelight dance off. I think this weekend coming at Depth Charge will be the best chance we get. Although there will be no NRG (my forte) I'm sure I can alter my style to suit.
On the topic though, I think guys are more flamboyant when they dance, well at least all my mates are anyway. I take up a fair amount of prime real estate when I rock, but that's just me. (It took me a good 5 minutes to work myself some space at Home the other weekend).
I know of some girls who can take up just as much space as I do, but on the whole, I reckon that girls bop, or boogie, more in a small designated space than guys like me who really DO need a fair bit of room to really rock it hardcore.
If you are one of the lucky ones who's seen me REALLY dance (like 7am at Kandy, hard arse banging tunes, up-lifting break-down, plenty of pills and most probably too much speed), then you'd see that I can sometimes take up about 1/4 of the whole dancefloor. But that's just me. Oh, and at that time of the morning, the stage is MINE AND NOBODY ELSE'S TERRITORY GODDAMMIT!!!
Anyway, to conclude, guys rock 'loud' and girls get funky small.
anyway, we'll have a dance next week and you can check it out then.
until then,
