SO when I take my new prescribed 5mg barr dexedrine I noticed it seemed very very weak in comparison to adderall. It seems as though I need as much dexedrine as would take adderall for me. It also doesn't make me concentrate for As long as I like but I dont care because the comedown if there is one I have yet to experience that. Anyway I am supposed to take 6 5mgs a day 2 3x day. I think that it needs to be 20mgs/3x a day. It works so well but I feel it lacks at low doses such as 30 for more than 4 hours...its gone after that for me. Ever taken all at once. I do not abuse drugs I take them for my medical reasons. I am diagnosed since age I cant remember severe ADD/ADHD and I wont lie its true, and Dexedrine has helped me more than any medicine so far. Would 80mgs? throughout the day using 10mg tabs be safe? I tried 60 and it lacks just by a very little number, such as 80. I think 20mgs 4 times a day may be best but I dont want to try it because I have 5mg pills and like I said I am trying to find what works best. My doctor is very open and understands and he said we are just going to work on my Dexedrine for now, and I think we only need 1 more adjustment. Is 20mgs too much for doctors to say take at once? I feel thats exactly how much it takes. Of course I don't want him knowing I experimented myself I was just curious because I noticed after the first say of 3 5mg pills sucked and was dumb as hell. Hardly did a think. So all I am asking if this is scattered is If 80mgs 10mgs 8 times a day, or 20 mgs 4 times a day sounds reasonable because it seems to be the medicine that has helped me the most, and I'm sick of looking around when I like what I feel I just need more of it throughout the day to remain focused.
20mg is a fine dosage to take at once. They come in up to 15mg size dexedrine SR. (20mg would be better only for sustained release, may not be theraputic if its the IR)
Dexedrine is absolutely different than adderall, but actually in sort of the opposite way you may expect. It is actually stronger, adderall doses go up very high, dexedrine normally could be prescribed in doses of 40- 60mg/day roughly. Thats surely the higher end, but each case is different. Reason being it is a more pure form (of the amphetamine salt). adderall had two amp salts, one of which really isnt too theraputic, infact, its mainly just a PNS stimulant, it is the one missing from dexedrine. a PNS stim is a chemical that stimulates your peripheral nervous system, resulting in more of a physical feeling. Many people complain of feeling dirty and especially run down after taking too much adderall. It happens with dexedrine too, but lesser, usually.
To your specific question; there is a general guidline that doctors should not prescribe dexedrine in excess of 40mg a day. The most i've ever been prescribed was 10 x 4 a day. have you heard of lisdexamfetamine? or vyvanse? If dexedrine is your pharm, then this would be great too. It has a duration of 10-12 hours (really is quite long lasting). Only drawback is it costs a bit more, brand name. Same chemical vyvanse and dex by the way, just an l isomer must be cleaved off in your intestine for the med to work to prevent abuse. It comes roughly in 5mg, 10mg, and then by 10s to 70mg..
35mg Dexedrine=70mg vyvanse is what is claimed. They do prescribe in excess of 70mg.
Now honestly would dexedrine be safe in a dosage of 80mg a day? while of course I cant gaurantee anything, no one can but a doctor, and even they can't. That being said, assuming your tolerance has built up, 80mg seems like a dosage that could be used, though, I dont know about everyday. If you take 80, and feel sweaty, nauseous, heart racing...you know its not good for you at that dose.
Why dont you look into vyvanse? 12 hour duration, plus, even though its essentially the same as dexedrine, it would be a newer drug to your brain, and perhaps your tolerance would get a bit better.
