What type syringes do you guys use ?

Also what the biggest gauge you've ever use ?

LOL I just used an oral syringe and shoved a 20 gauge on it. Thats huge but it worked. When i pulled it out I i bleed big time. Anyone else doe something stupid like this. YES I KNOW ITS DUMB SO thanks in advance to anyone who wants to tell me.

I don't know, 26G, maybe 25G. Gauges of all sizes are available free of charge at the needle exchange around here.

I prefer 27/28G 1cc 1/2inch Terumo's.

Don't really care for the other brands, as the plunger isn't as smooth as Terumo's, IME. As for different gauges, I wouldn't go below 27 unless I'm in a huge bind. I don't like the higher gauges cause they clog easier, bend easier, and registering is slower.
As far as needle size, 1/2 inch and below is fine. I think people who are new to IV should use needles smaller than 1/2inch. It's easier to avoid vein damage(hitting sides, going through the vein, etc) with them.

they're usually 29-31. prefer BD but sometimes the pharmacy will only sell generic, i don't like to push my luck when buying points. i can't feel the difference between 29 through 31 but i've never tried anything larger, & don't experience the problem with clogging.

I should have been more specific. They clog easier with blood when you register, and slip out out of the vein, and you have to repeat the process again... I've never had one clog when I was filtering or anything like that. 99% of the time the dope over here dissolves completely. At least to the naked eye.

Thanks guys. Phrozen I have same problem with the higher gauges. I like my point to be almost like a straw :\ But now as big as 20 I just had some dilaudids and had to go that route. Clean, easy hit each time too .

30g preferably. Doesn't slip out as much as 31 do but don't hurt like the 29's.

Biggest I've used was 28 I think. Hurt like hell.

20g, ouch. I prefer 28g, 1cc, 1/2 inch. I have gone to a vet supply store when I was in a real tough spot. I think the smallest they had were 25g. They worked, but it wasn't real fun. Those bigger gauges fuck your veins up in a hurry if you keep using them. I used those vet 25g ones for a few days and the spots I used them in were gone in a no time.

Terumo all the way, for any sort of injection I'd give myself. I have definitely noticed the evil "stuck" plunger on BDs. I mostly just use BD syringes for stuff like filtering & sterilizing solutions to put in vials for later use since the huge sizes (20mL+) are easier to come by and you can attach various things to the end with the Luer-Lok.

I prefer to use something with a fixed needle for injection to minimize loss. 29ga 1/2in 1cc terumo preferably (the insulin pins).

Biggest I've used is 27g.
Personal preference, I like anywhere from 29-31, ideally 30. But like someone else said above, I don't push my luck, because the pharmacist isn't supposed to sell them to me anyway. I usually end up with BD. Actually, I don't think I've ever used anything but BD.
Oh yeah, also, short tips. 5/16 inch I believe.

30 gauge, forever and always

1cc

1/2" needle

thats the one i will use till they stop makin em or i die. they are perfect!

I favor 28 or 29g, find them to be the perfect balance of ease in registering (compared to a smaller gauge) and not leaving bad marks (compared to a larger).

30-31 g Bd or Turemo. Turemos are the CADDY of rigs. The biggest I've ever used was a 29g Turemo and even tho it was a Turemo I thought it hurt cause the size. Maybe 2% of the time while getting down will I have to try to re-hit. I have preem veins and I DON'T tie off. It's usually one shot, one kill.

Around where I live we get these shitty ULTRA-Comforts that are fucking useless. Drawing up with them sucks, especially if your firing pills. I HATE them things.

Biggest I've used was a 29, started out with those, now I use 30g 1/2cc 1/2" BD rigs. And yeah the plunger action can be a real bitch, I just adjusted the way I grip the rig so I have a better, more equal grip on the plunger. I'm sure I'd probably prefer Terumo if I ever tried em, but there's no needle exchange here and I don't wanna be too picky at the pharmacy buying insulin syringes for my mother. 8)

27-29 gauge with a 1/2" needle is pretty much perfect. 30 and up is too small to register and presents some problems suckin the solution up.

.5cc is useable but 1cc is great because it gives you a nice lil bit of cushion room when mixing your solution up.

here in nyc the pharmacies usually only carry BD or generic syringes, the plunger sticks and is kinda hard to use if you're less experienced with IV'ing.

You can still walk into any cvs or store of the likes and ask for a single pack syringe for like a buck, can't you? That's how it was a few years ago in the city, anyhow.

It was a pretty cool deal. I would just ask for a "rig" literally by name. They hand em out in singles for like a buck, or a buck fifty, I forget how much. It was real Lax.
