need to know the name of a smoking method

im writing a paper for school, and I need to know what its called when you hold a joint between your pinky and ring finger, make a fist, and inhale by putting your mouth over the hole made by your thumb and index finger. i think its called trumpeting, but im not sure
 
We used to call that a deathbox, but slang varies widely, even from one social circle to another, and obviously there is no proper name. I cannot conceive of the nature of this paper you are writing...
 
I always called it a "hand chillum" but I guess it's not much of a chillum if it's with a joint. It will always vary, as mentioned, from circle to circle.
 
I'm guessing your fist makes a chamber and the joint acts like a lit bowl that is propped up between your pinky and ring fingers.

My issue is that it seems really impractical when the joint works quite well itself when pressed against the lips. I'm guessing the "fist-chamber" cannot be an airtight seal, either...
 
It's actually not impractical at all, but the main reasoning for it is to avoid burning/drying lips excessively near the end of the joint. Because of course, you gotta get that tasty goodness out.

No idea what it's called though. One of my stoner mates just discovered it recently though (the rest of us have known for like 10 years) so I keep seeing him do it lately. I wonder what he's decided to call it.

Works infinitely better if you use both hands to make the chamber too.

Joint smoke through your hands is not the same concept as a chillum, sorry buddy.
 
^It really is... The only difference is the joint becomes a pipe. Take a look at this picture of a traditional chillum:

I'm merely referring to the fact that smoking a joint is completely different to smoking a chillum. If you disagree, then whatever. Kind of like calling a can with some holes punched in it the same thing as a bong. You could, but I disagree.

no kidding, every post in this thread has had a different name for it. i don't think my group of friends even has a name for it, it's a pretty rare occurrence.
