السلام عليكم
So, I need to quit cancer. I've been smoking for about 8 years, pack-a-day+ for at least 4 years straight, and lately I've managed to cut back down to so cigarettes unless I'm with my chainsmoking friends (it's so hard to quit when everyone in your life smokes....) or if I get intoxicated. I started with Newport 100s, then Marlboro Menthols (yuck, marlboros SUCK), then for a short time Djarum blacks, then camel blues, Kamel reds, and now, I've been loyal to Turkish Royals for quite some time now.

I'm not ready to quit nicotine completely, I want to transition and nicotine gum, patches, etc. they all suck and don't help. I'm just done with the cancer sticks, everytime I smoke one, I instantly feel disgusting and gross, I know better and cancer runs in my family, and there's nothing worse than knowingly causing yourself harm. As someone who firmly believes in harm reduction, I feel like a hypocrite by smoking cancer sticks.

I need help finding something like an electronic cigarette, but one that you can make your own cartridges with, of nicotine and other things*

*By other things, I mean hash oil, which I use legally and medicinally due to Chronic Pain and my entire GI is destroyed so if I didn't have cannabis, I couldn't eat, and would have to take a much larger amount of my prescribed opioids.

So with that background... The only way I've ever managed to quit cigarettes for any lengthy amount of time, was by smoking cannabis extracts everytime I got a nicotine craving. I've heard of certain E-Cigs that people have made their own cartridges with hash oil and it basically functioned as a portable vaporizer, so this would be killing two birds with one stone, being able to transition off cigarettes with vaporized nicotine and cannabinoids.

So who has experience with these E-Cigs?

I have experience with e-cigarettes or "personal vaporizers" (PVs). My first recommendation would be to check out an excellent internet forum about vaping - are we allowed to post links to other forums?

There are a million different types and choices and it can be a bit overwhelming but it's worth it to do your research and find the best PV for your needs.

The best vaping forums do not generally allow discussion about vaping anything other than nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerine, and flavourings, but I'm sure you can still guess which types of PVs would best suit your purposes. You'll also want to consider factors like battery life, ease of use, size/appearance, function (do the cartomizers clog easily? does it produce lots of vapor? how do you refill it and how much liquid does it hold? etc)

There are portable vaporizers designed specifically for hash oil, but there are many more designed for nicotine and some should be suitable for both (even if they weren't deliberately designed for both). An interesting thing to look into would be whether you can either make or dilute your cannabis extracts with propylene glycol and whether that might be beneficial (increase the vapor production? decrease the likelihood of clogging the PV?).

One thing to note is that ocassionally people are sensitive to PG and it will irritate and dry out their mouth/lips. If you end up being one of these people you will want to try a glycerine base for your nicotine solutions instead of PG, but glycerine has some disadvantages.

vaporsmiths.com get a ego battery and a few clearomizers, shit is so cheap i bought 500ml of e liquid from china

ill dip for a few days instead to clear out my lungs.. i know all they say is its not a healthy alternative' ya but it is an alternative.. i feel dip gets the nicotine in you just fine and is easier to quit.. however im a habit smoker to the point where obviously meals, drinking, fishing, etc.. but its at the point where if i see breaklights driving,, im already rolling my windows down haha.. the habit is harder to break than the addiction so hopefully the electronic (which i got zero fix from) can solve the habit part.. but i like the harsh feeling of the inhale.. kamel reds i feel ya there

Just a suggestion...maybe you could start by buying bags of 100% tobacco, rolling your own - dont know if it will help you quit, but at least you will know your not inhaling the other 10-15 chemicals that are included in 99% of the packs of 20...

I know, not much help.

I have been using an encore brand ecig and buying blank cartridges and flavored nicotine oil for 2 years now. I recommend the encore batteries as they work great, have lifetime warranties, and are one of the only brands endorsed by the better business bureau. I then would reccomend goin to the royal brand site for bottles of oil and blank cartridges. They have around 30 flavors and i have never had any issues with them, great deals sometimes as well. For encore type encore vapor shop in google and it should come up. For cartridges and oil type royal ecigs or somethin in google but i believe site is smokeroyals. Hope this helps!

Should be better now. I'm trying to find one that's good for nicotine and hash oil. I really look forward to quitting cigarettes for good, I hate to knowingly harm myself like that.

@All, I had two cigarettes today and until about five minutes ago, had been fighting the strong urge for another. I took a bongload of keif and my craving for cigarettes was cut in half.

@viken, you need to quit chewing that's some nasty shit right there. It's by no means healthier, the general consensus here is that it's worse for you. We can do this!! Fuck red lights, it's part of driving. I get road rage but calm myself down at red lights but I just take the time to pick a new song to play through my 1200 watt system or take calls through bluetooth ;)

@SD, thankyou for your post, what disadvantages of glycerin would you be most worried about?

Not all e-cigs/PVs can handle glycerine without clogging, it seems to decrease atomizer life, it is thicker than propylene glycol, glycerine e-liquids are less readily available than PG ones, it is sweeter tasting and most people think it doesn't produce as much of a "throat hit". There are probably entire threads devoting to the pros and cons of glycerine and PG on the vaping forums. I would suggest starting with PG, just don't get a huge quantity of one type of e-liquid, try out a few different kinds. There are various strengths of nicotine and literally a million different flavours. Personally I like good ol' tobacco flavour ;)

The most common side effects of inhaling both PG and VG (vegetable glycerine) are sore/dry lips/mouth/throat and/or increased thirst. In most people these symptoms usually last just a few days to a week, then the body gets used to the PG or VG. But for some people (like me) the side effects may persist and some find that they are more sensitive to PG than to VG. Moving from smoking "analog" (traditional) cigarettes to e-cigarettes, you might get side effects from quitting smoking. Some new users of an e-cigarette incorrectly attribute these quitting smoking side effects to the e-cigarette.
