Hello...Haven't posted on here a while. From the upper midwest in US. Started using early teens, now in my early 50's, but amazingly my body is still in ok shape for what I put it through. Stopped alcohol 6 years ago. Then went on Suboxone for 3...went off 6 months ago, had surgery, and BAM, addicted again. Trying to get Oxycodone or Hydro anywhere I can. Have a good life, don't want this shit anymore! But, today is my first day of really having my mind set on getting off it before I end up in jail again. Husband is aware and very supportive. Thought of going back on sub, but no one around here is taking new patients...Would have to travel, like 3 hours one way. Been using again for about 3 months. Just need someone to talk to in regards to easing my way through. Taking loads of immodium, have clonodine, and stuff for restless legs. Also have about 5-6 benzos. How many days can I expect the bad physical stuff? Will high doses of immodium really help withdrawal symptoms. Really don't want to get back on sub, that shit was hard to get off of. Would rather suffer a few days, even if I would drive all the way. Just need conversation.....Thanks

if you don't want to do this anymore you can stand up right now and make that choice. Take some benzos as soon as you start to feel withdrawl and maybe smoke a little weed if your into that and then go out and exercise or do something to distract yourself. Cut off all your old friends and make a new circle of friends, join a league or do something that will occupy your time and make you feel useful and productive. The help is out there, NA and other groups you just need to seek it out. I believe you can do this and today can be the beginning of the rest of your life, YOU have the power to choose this and life can be so beautiful on the other side. Good luck and God bless( coming from someone 5 years clean on heroin)

Hey, Poppyflower. I agree with nintey.
You've gotta be able to commit to it if you really do want to quit.

Is there anything you want to talk about specifically? I'm here for ya. :)

Thanks JunkieDAYS...having a hard time physically of course. Your gonna give me a hard time abt this one, but I did make some poppy seed tea yesterday to take the edge off. Thinking of weaning slowly with that, just when I feel the bad stuff comin on. If I can get down to just a half cup then lower, maybe WD wont be quite as bad, but might make it worse too. Probably will kick mysself for it, but just quit cold turkey off high doses of hydro. This seems less potent and lasts longer. Still even feel ok this a.m., just a bit shaky. Will sip on it. I AM focused on quitting entirely for sure still, ASAP. What do u think? Stupid idea? Is it ok to us "I" when posting in here? Thanks for being here to talk to :)

Hey there girlie..I know its tough..just keep strong.

I want to say though I think you would be better off staying away from the poppy seed tea. You think hydros are to come off of...that tea will make those hydros look like a walk in the park!. Plus you can't really titrate down with it because of how the strength varies. The poppy seeds have like 100 (I'm just guessing a number but I know it is a lot...just don't know exact amount of the top of my head) different alkaloids in there...its just bad news..you will be better off titrating down on hydros or just going back on subs.

I know you said subs were too hard to come off of..have you thought of staying on them awhile til you get yourself straightened out and then doing a very slow taper? Might be something to consider....either way you go you know eventually the piper has to be paid!

The answer to your question about the loperamide is yes, if you take enough of them they will help your WDs (do that instead of poppy seeds). They are an opioid that is similar to fentanyl (Duragesic patches) which is a very strong opioid. The reason that they are no longer a scheduled drug and are available over the counter is because they do not cross the blood brain barrier (BBB) therefore you feel no euphoria (high) with them..(though this is a little controversial because some people swear that if they take enough of them they get high). So they affect your body the same way an opiate/opioid would...just no great feeling from them. Of course you must take quite a bit higher dose than what is directed on the bottle to get relief from the WDs but they are pretty safe at a moderate dose. In very high doses for prolonged periods of time they can be neurotoxic (but it isn't common and it is a pretty high dose we are talking about).

So anyway, stay away from the poppies, take your clonidine and loperamide and be safe..you will get through ir if you put your mind to it.feel free to message me if you wish...BL is a great community and very supportive.

Good luck!

I also don't recommend tapering with ppt. To taper properly you need to be able to precisely measure your dose and there would be too much variation with the tea with potency alone. The withdrawals are notoriously difficult as missmeyet? said.

Like everyone will say, you have to really commit to quitting. Have you given detox/rehab any thought? If you're sure about this than professional help would be the absolute best option.

You're welcome to post here but, if you don't know bluelight has a recovery section. You may want to check that out.

Thank you all for your comments..I have started seeing a counselor outpatient, feels good. Also, in regards to pst, I made a large juice bottle of tea at one time. When I start to feel wd symptoms, I take a few swallows, it does help of course. Slowly lowering my dose on that down to 1/2 cup by this Tues. I went all day yesterday with just one swallow. This way, it all comes from the same dose and same seeds. So, although this may not be recommended by some, and I am just substituting another drug, I am trying it for now. Only will be taking it for 5-6 days, less each day, and then I will see what wd will be like Wed and Th
