I have no idea if I posted this in the right subforum. There are so many, it's hard to know where this should go. If this is the wrong location, I apologize.
My situation has kind of left me alone and in the dark, not knowing what to do or who to go to.
I have been taking Methadone 10mg 3x a day for about six months now for chronic pain from injuries I sustained while in the military. I'm seeing a civilian doctor through the Veteran's Choice Program because the VA can't handle everyone right now, and the nearest VA is an hour away from where I live. It's the only pain doctor in my town.
I picked up my last prescription on the 17th of January. It was a 30 day supply. As far as I'm aware, you count the day you picked the medication up as one of your days, since you used the medication that day. Since January has 31 days in it, I should be able to pick my refill up on the 15th of this month (tomorrow). However, on Monday of last week, the receptionist for my doctor's office called and left me a message that said my next appointment wasn't scheduled until the 17th. I have been calling them every day, multiple times, and leaving messages, but nobody ever answers the phone or returns my calls. I am due to run out of my medication tomorrow, and from what I've heard, running out of Methadone makes you want to die. I'm very nervous about this.
I have attempted to ask the pharmacy if they could give me a two day refill to get me through. They said no. I asked the emergency room if they would see me for this reason, they said it would be up to the doctor, but most likely they would treat me for my pain at that moment and send me home, not give me a two day supply. I told her I wasn't in pain right now because I still have my medication. She said then they wouldn't do anything. I asked her if I should wait and just come in when i'm in withdrawal. She said don't do that.
So basically I have no idea what to do at this point. Am I screwed? Do I just have to suck it up and wait until the 17th because nobody is ever at the clinic? Do I have any other options at all, here? I'm REALLY not looking forward to running out of medication and going through withdrawal from Methadone.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.
