Misc Need a drug to stop my nose producing mucous

I've been taking pseudoephedrine and it alleviates the congestion and the discomfort associated with a blocked nose, however it doesn't seem to stop my nose from producing mucous. Every time I blow my nose, I find a couple of mins later the mucous comes back. It's like it's never ending and is driving me mad.

Is there any drug I can take to specifically stop this mucous production? Would guaifenesin work or would that just help with the congestion like pseudoephedrine does? I know this isn't a question about getting high but I'd appreciate your help all the same as I am suffering a little. Thanks.

muscinex? (sp?)
nevermind, that is guefinessin and i think that works mostly in the lungs.. not sure.

EDIT: have you tried antihistamines?

Guaifensin just thins the mucous out. You need something like an anticholinergic or a antihistamine. Diphenhydramine will do nicely, or perhaps scopolamine/atropine dosed by a physician if you can't stand the sedation.

Cool, I'll try some promethazine or diphenhydramine. Thanks mate.

I just happen to have some travel sickness pills which are scopolamine-based I think, so I could try that I suppose. This place is much better than a pharmacy!

What you're looking for is anticholinergic aspects, and neither of those drugs are particularly strong at that.

^ oh are you referring to the quetiapine and the olanzapine or the promethazine and the diphenhydramine? Sorry for the confusion with the edit. I didn't see your post before the edit was done.

The quietapine and olanazipine. You should try promethazine,s eeing as you're in the UK. Avoid anything that's more of a "pure" antihistamine.

Pseudoephedrine is not supposed to completely eliminate mucous. It causes lots of it to come out because it loosens it up so that it's not just stuck in your sinuses - that is a good thing. Otherwise, like others have said, anti-histamines.

I have a chronic bunged up nose. I always have at least one nostril that is totally bunged up - i'm used to it. This week however i've had a lot of mucous & have had great success with xylometazoline sudafed nasal spray. Highly recommended.

Loratadine (Claratin) works for me, as well as anti-histamines with or without pseudoephedrine. Also using saline nasal spray helps too.

Use meth, as in levmetamfetamine or vicks vapor inhaler, although regular d-meth works too :) .

Have you used phenylephrine hcl (4 way)....

You're surely joking, right? I have read many, many studies on phenylephrine and the general conclusion quite often no better then a placebo! :\ I've personally found this to be the case also.

Use meth, as in levmetamfetamine or vicks vapor inhaler, although regular d-meth works too :) .

I know we're in an age of "there's a pill for that" but seriously? lol. Suggesting illicit/illegal substances to reduces mucus production? :\
