Chemistry Necessity of catalyst in hypothetical black tar heroin synthesis?

Hi, just for informational purposes I was wondering how necessary sulfuric acid is in heroin synthesis, as far as my (very basic) understanding of chemistry goes, catalysts are simply to speed up a reaction that would happen naturally in time. So I guess my question is, if just left to sit, would morphine with acetic anhydride or acetic acid eventually acetylate on its own (and if so how long would that take?), or is the sulfuric acid a requirement?

I am wondering just how tar is made, is it made with AA just like any other form of heroin or is it made with Glacial Acetic acid . . . and the process, I cannot find information on it anywhere. Just afghan #4 recipes.

Look up drug busts in the Mexican desert and check out the chem bottles. I know I’ve seen acetic acid anhydrous in some of them.

It looks like they just use big pots and they don’t remove the codeine or any of that shit first. It’s like mezcla.
