my friend quit smoking and started goin insane

Alright i have a friend that ive known for about a year and he used to smoke everyday untill one day his parents caught him so he decided to quit smoking. well days after he started acting strange. like at lunch we would be siting there and he would just start talking about the weirdest stuff that made absolutly no sense like " when i was smoking i was constantly triping and i never realized it untill now because i was insane because i was smoking and now that im not insane i can finally realize the truth". well his dad called up another one of my friends last weekend asking what drugs his son has used. well my friend tells him all hes done is smoke which is true never done pills or anything then his dad informs him that hes in the hospital for physciatric evalulationsnd is probably going to a mental institution. can any one help find out why this is happening i mean im completly blown away the kid was completly normal before he quit.
 
his brain chemistry is changing, but that's wierd that it would be that fast.
having him institutionalized isn't going to make him better IMO.
 
Well I honestly don't think your friend is "insane". When you stop smoking it take some time to re-adjust mentally and physically. I am no doctor but when I take a break from smoking I notcie I have more energy to spare and sometimes it feels like my thoughts are racing but maybe that's because i'm used to being high off weed. It's as if the brain is more active and alert IMO. Maybe this is what causes weird random dreams for the first few days or so after you stop. Maybe your friend has an underlying condition and might be a good thing that he is getting evaluated.

Me personally, I might be bi polar. I don't really take much worth into that "condition" because sometimes you're up and sometimes you're down. Sometimes I have a nasty edge to myself where I get angry at people that piss me off but maybe if they weren't fuckin idiots they wouldn't be pissing me off in the first place.

I don't know man, I dunno your friend, you know him better than we do. Let him get evaluated if he thinks that's best and you will get a better idea of what may be wrong with him.
 
Lol you should of talked him out of quitting and checked if that made him better. Perhaps he was medicating an underlying mental condition the whole time he was smoking? Just throwing that out there, I know it's improbable.
 
First time I quit weed I went a little loopy. More in a sense of a stupid sense of humour and doing silly things like making up words etc. etc. Sounds kind of stupid and it is to me now, I don't really know why I behaved like such a weird cunt for a while.
Recently quit weed and haven't experienced it this time around. Couldn't give you an answer why, hopefully your mates ok though.
 
Just tell your friend to chill for a few days, no need to send him to a mental instutution, lol. After a while you'll feel back to normal but it might take a few days/weeks depending on how heavily he smoked.
 
MJ dulls some peoples sense of emotions. Your friend might just be experiencing things he hasn't noticed in a while. Or its depression. After a long tokage period like that, cold turkey would most likely lead to some sort of depressed state for a week or two. Also weird shit starts going through your mind when you're depressed so don't be to worried, just keep an eye on him.
 
yeah man that sounds pretty normal to me .... the way i read into it was that it sounds like he's just finally experiencing what it's like to be sober for the first time in a while after being in a huge haze.. that shit can be shocking!!!
 
I still don't get why people say "tripping" when referring to being high. Juts a pet peeve of mine I guess.

Anyways, he's probably just experiencing an abnormally intense psychological withdrawal. I've known people that decided to up and stop smoking completely for awhile after they've been the type of person to be stoned 24/7 for years. Needless to say they get loopy.

If I was this kid's parent I'd wait it out for a bit to see if he normalizes. If not, just set up an appointment with a psychiatrist.

If he's not imagining extraterrestrial monsters out to kill him he probably doesn't need to be hospitalized.

I can relate to his use of tripping - i feel like smoking pot all the time has altered my mental and emotional perspective. maybe he's referring to that fact when he uses that word

I don't disagree, I just feel like calling being high "tripping" is an insult to true hallucinogens. ;)
 
I think pot is a true hallucinogen. It's also a depressant, and a stimulant, it's just all over the place. Pot can cause some pretty crazy feelings sometimes, extreme time dilation, paranoia, sometimes even visual or auditory hallucinations! We pot heads usually take these effects for granted because we have such a high tolerance and we're so psychologically used to the state that it becomes normal. Anyways I had a similar experience the last couple weeks. I have been a heavy pot smoker for years and quit cold turkey two weeks ago. It's a very abrupt change of brain chemistry! The sudden change in emotional and psychological perspective caused me to feel very unstable and the constant dreaming whenever you sleep adds to it quite a bit. I think your friend will be fine, give him atleast two weeks to adjust. I'm just getting to the two week point now and I'm only starting to feel normal about things now.
 
When I first stopped smoking after a multi year daily habit I had a bunch of energy and it was hard to get to sleep. Eating was also difficult for a few days. That was about as bad as it got for me. I was still able to function totally fine and whatnot. Everyone is different though.
 
Come on now, taking a break for 2 weeks, you wont go into a mental institution, thats just plain stupid.
 
sounds like something else is going on up there IMO. Im about to quit for 2 weeks bc of tolerence problems, hope this doesnt happen to me.
 
Putting him in a mental institution would probably just make him feel worse in addition to probably fucking him up with sketchy psychiatric drugs. He is simply readjusting to sobriety, and it seems like that catalyzed some introspection. It is possible though that he has had some other psychiatric abnormality all along that no one noticed while he was high.
