So i broke my back in a motorcycle wreck a few weeks ago and im in a brace for the next 8 weeks. I have 2 broken vertebrae and one thats slipped forward. I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon for a followup in a couple weeks and im planning on getting a referral to a pain clinic. I smoke cannabis and im stopping today to get it out of my system. I was wondering if a pain dr. will deny me meds if i have cannabis in my system on the first visit or is that only a problem for the next visit after i sign the PM contract? I appreciate your input.

many thanks,
sludge

It depends on the doc of course, but in my experience, yes they would deny you. Most PM docs I've seen are so suspicious of new patients that they will look for any reason to turn you away. I would buy some at home tests, and delay your appointment until you consistently piss clean. Also be aware that if your neuro is currently prescribing you pain meds, then you need to ensure those do show up in your system whenever you get tested.

Drug testing is against Habeas Corpus in my opinion. If the doctor wants to ensure you're not a "junkie" before giving you the pills, why not tap your phone and listen to your conversations also?

I would soooo refuse these tests, you have no idea.
