Last night I made mushroom tea, as usual, except this time I decided to try the acid extraction method I've been seeing online.
Ingredients:
Dried magic mushrooms (1.2g, measured with scientific scale)
Lemon juice + vinegar (both not necessary, see below)
Licorice root
Fresh ginger
Pure orange extract (oil)
Water
I powdered the mushrooms (golden teachers with a coffee grinder, then covered them with lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, enough to cover the powder. I ended up not having enough lemon juice, which was why I added ACV. I let that sit for 45 min to 1 hour. In the mean time, I simmered about 500mL (2 cups) of water containing 1 tbs (about 6g) of fresh ginger root and about the same amount of licorice root. I use these to prevent mushroom gut + smooth the edges of the trip. I timed it so that the ginger/licorice simmered for the last 20 minutes that the mushrooms/ACV were processing.
I strained the ginger/licorice pieces out and poured the boiling water over the mushroom/acid mixture. I added 1-2 drops of orange oil for flavour, then I put the mixture in a small mason jar and sealed the lid.
When the time came, I drank the entire thing at once, including the mushroom powder in it. The ginger, licorice root, and orange oil helped, but the sour aspect due to the acids was unpleasant.
Now... I'm sensitive to substances in general these days, but that 1g of mushrooms made me astronomically high when normally it wouldn't: full on closed-eye and open-eye visuals, heavy body load, and general disorientation. Keep in mind, this was not a new batch of mushrooms, but what was left from a batch that I bought a year ago! I went into nature to do this trip and brought a backpack full of the stuff I usually like to do while I'm high, and I couldn't do any of it.
About 3.5 hours later, I still couldn't get in my car to drive home, which is normally not a problem at all at this dose. I normally choose mushroom tea because the effects tend to come on all at once and then subside quicker. This was way too long and intense for me, but I still made the most of it.
I won't do the acid extraction again because it made the tea sour and I was burping acid for half the trip, which, combined with the taste of mushrooms, was gross. I'm thankful I did the ginger/licorice because I definitely would've had to vomit otherwise.
All in all... good trip. I had the type of revelations I was looking for, plus it was cool to commune with owls in the forest, who came around at the point that I was too high to even stand up. They seemed curious... or maybe they were looking for a contact high lol... or maybe they sensed my trippy energy and wanted to see what this unusual vibe in their forest was all about. Their outlines and wings were magical in the moonlight and their hooting was a funny soundtrack. I was happy to have their company while I was tripping balls though as it felt like a sacred, protective omen.
