wasn't sure where to post this but does anyone else have problems taking mood stabilizers with hydrocodone? I take tegretol and it seems like it cause nervousness when I take hydrocodone with it? Is that something others experience or is it my personal chemical makeup causing an issue?

What are you taking the tegretol for? I would think that it might just cause some of the side effects to increase?

Opiates and SSRIs haven't caused an issue for me but that's just personal experience and SSRIs aren't the same as tegretol.

I take tegretol as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder ~ is a low dose of 200 mg but still has been causing problems where I've taken it in the past with hydrocodone and never had issues~

Never heard of this before. I'd entertain the possibility that you're anxious at a possible reaction and thereby experience one.

So we know why you take the tegretol...what about the hydrocodone?

Withdrawal from opiates can cause symptoms reminiscent of all kinds of mental illnesses, depression, anxiety, bipolar, insomnia, and more. I don't think your tegretol will work well unless you cut out recreational drug use.

Carbamazepine (Tegretol) is a enzyme inducing Anti-Convulsant. It induces CYP3A4 but Hydrocodone metabolises primarily though CYP2D6. So there shouldn't be too much of a problem there i don't think. They prescribe Tegretol with Opiates alot for pain as it's used for Neuropathic pain. I personally found it to not only not work but also give me awful side effects so i quit after maybe 2 weeks.

My hydrocodone is prescribed by a dr for Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as degenerative disc disease so it's not 'recreational' at all~
