Hello everyone, new guy here

I am just wondering about anyones experience on mirtazapine mainly 15mg.

2 years ago I was prescribed 15mg and it did alot for me, made me eat and sleep and feel good.

I was OFF of it for about a year, to try and cope without any medication, but went back on it last month but the effects arent the same when I was taking it years before. First time I took it last month it wasnt the same, I didnt even feel sedated or eat and I basically felt like crap and I still do.

2 years ago the remeron was very noticable on my depression I just felt like a new person. Whats going on here? Sometimes I even think that the pills that I have from the pharmacy are fake or something, because I dont have insurance and I bought the medication from some pharmacy im new too that sells medication for cheap.

Am I SOL or what

I think this is more suited to 'the dark side' forum so let's try it over there.

Well I was prescribed 30 mg's for sleep, a few months ago. 30 was a bit too strong so I decided to try 15 mg's and it worked like a charm, sleeping wise. In my case I felt quite depressed on it but boy did I sleep like baby.

As for the remeron...I have no idea, sorry .
Good luck

I'm currently on a 30mg dose at night and some nights it knocks me straight out and others I can stay up all night and feel nothing. It does make my appetite WAY bigger than it used to be though.

I've been taking 15mg for one week now -it's very new to me. I'm afraid of the weight gain, and I already have a lowered sex drive because of the drug :p

But... I sleep well, and that's very important to me, so I'm accepting these drawbacks for a while. Oh, and the anti-depressant effects are present to a fairly good degree.

I agree with the AD effects - work seems somewhat easier with dealing with the public when I have taken my Mirtazapine. It does make me very groggy though at night and in the morning (sometmes lasting all day).

I think I'm going to half the dose (ie. 7.5mg) to see if my sex drive improves.
The problem is my shrink is on holidays and I don't see him before mid-september, so I'll have to do it without his advice. What do you think about that?

well i've been taking mirtazapine for 6 months now and i find it to be the best AD i've ever been on. Prior i had taken about 4 various SSRI's mainly in my teens and early 20's. Lexapro basically chemically castrated me and i vowed never to take an SSRI again. I did give each one a fair go.... like at least 2 months and none of them improved my mood and depression to anything i could notice.

So more recently, after a 3 or 4 year gap from AD's i decided to try mirtazapine because i was told that it had less side effects to SSRI's and also the fact that i'm 6f2inches tall but only weigh 71-73 kgs.... so i was looking forward to it improving my appetite.

so six months on it and i've experimented with various doses such as 30mg, 45mg and 60mg. Actually the first time i took it i had 60mg and it knocked me out like no other benzo has before and gave me some very interesting closed eye visuals.... I was playing Fallout III at the time and i was getting vivid flashes of various items you pick up in the game one after the other at full speed... like 10 items a second, but i had time to see everyone perfectly. I don't think 500mg of seraquel knocked me out harder!

Anyway, i've found 15mg at night is the right dose for me. 90mg won't knock me out for shit any more(tried it once recently).

It's interesting that some of you guys get your sex drive effected by mirtazapine.... Mine is completely unaffected.

As long as i don't smoke weed(or a little) i get the most amazing dreams from 15mg, a few dreams i've had on it in the last six months have been on par with a psychedelic experience almost as spiritual; and vivid as DMT or LSD.... amazing.... I fly once every 2 weeks and it's incredible to wake up from such good dreams.

I've never been officially be diagnosed with a form of depression, but i used to get huge mood swings very rapidly. like being content for 10mins to being depressed as hell the next 10mins... with no trigger. Sure i still suffer from depression, sometimes mild, and sometimes more intense depending on what the cause is, but since mirtazapine at 15mg i feel like my mind and mood is significantly stable. still get deeply depressed sometimes, but the rapid and unpredictable shift in mood has been pretty much static on mirtazapine.

i highly recommend it for anyone who suffers from big mood swings and depression.

@ Loulou reed, yeah go for it mate, it can't hurt can it? just make sure you give it a few weeks at that dose and see if your sex drive improves. BTW, you're not on and benzo's or opiates are you? If 7.5mg is still not helping you in that department then you might need to try something else unfortunately... i just know from my experience from SSRI's that all of them effected my sex drive at various degrees and i've even heard reports of some altering sex drives permanently.... i could be wrong though as it's been a while since i've had any interest in them.

hope that helped : ) good luck

Thanks for your input, Sublimit. As a matter of fact, yes, I do take some opiates and benzos: 10mg of methadone/day (MMT) and some clonazepam from time to time (but not daily).

Do you think my lowered sex drive could be the result of mixing opies/benzos with mirtazapine?

I've read mirtazapine can actually enhance some people's sex drive. I've read too that 7.5mg can be more sedative than 15mg, ie. the lower the dose the more sedative it can be. Interesting thoughts.

no worries Loulou, yeah absolutely. even though you're not taking clonazepam daily it's half life is very long.... maybe not quite as long as valium but clonaz is a potent benzodiazapine and you'd be surprised how long say 2mg would stay in your system for.

only 10mg of methadone,,, well it is a small dose i guess, but still i'd say that wouldn't be too much of a factor, especially with the clonazepam in your system. Having said that my cousin is having a really hard time with his GF because he's all but lost his sex drive and she wants him completely off the valium he's been taking. he's also on 60mg of methadone, but from what he tells me is that he goes alight with just the methadone, but the valium takes the desire away almost completely.... not exactly sure how much valium he takes, but i think it averages out around 30mg a day. once he got off the benzo's his sex life resumed... not ideally but considering the decent dose of methadone he is on, cutting out the valium was a huge improvement.

I hardly have any experience with methadone, but even small amounts of benzo's fuck my sex drive to the point of non existence. if i'm just on opiates(once a week) then my only problem is i fuck like a porn star ; )
taking opiates everyday is different, but at a small amount like 15mg of oxycodone a day(which would be roughly equivelant to 10mg of methadone) would have no effect on my sex drive at all.

try and not take clonazepam for a little while,,,, give it 5 days and see. 10mg of methadone really shouldn't make you lose your sex drive at all... and then you should be able to really tell if the mirtazapine is effecting your sex drive.... i'd also suggest you stick with 15mg while you're off the clonazepam. i assume you are taking it for anxiety.... mirtazapine should help with that.

Ok, thanks ;)

I'll stop taking the klonnie for a while and see if it's the culprit (together with mirtazapine).

take note that lower doses of remeron like 15mg will make you more sleepy than higher doses. It has more effect on norepinephrine at higher doses.

Thanks to everyone for the info.

Also, can you explain to me how mirtazapine works on norepinephrine?
I dont have much knowledge of norepinephrine at all... I dont really know what it is, I just know it has something to do with anxiety.

Can someone explain to me what norepinephrine in a brief,,.
and how mirtazapine effects it

sorry for mispellings or if I dont make sense im really sleepy.. thanks again :|

Ok, I'm stopping mirtazapine. I gained two kilos within 12 days. No thank you.

Ahhh, reason why it's my ADOC is because i'm 6foot3 and i only weigh 72kg.... I'm actually just about to start a weight gain diet.

Anyway, its a shame Loulou reed... i don't know if you have a weight problem or not, or if it's just something you're conscious about and see it getting worse. It's a shame because after all the SSRI's i've been on and then finally trying something different in mirtazapine, i find it to be a fucking great AD for reasons i've already mentioned.

I noticed the increase of apatite when initially going on it, but that passes mate... i can assure you. being on it for a month and it will level out and won't have those weight gaining property's talk to your GP and i'm sure he'll tell you the same.

don't be so quick to write it off over a couple of kilos would be my advise. just give it some thought and talk to your GP about it.

Thanks for answering, Sublimit. You have some good advice, but my shrink is on hollydays till the 20th September.

And the last time, I gained 20 kilos within 2 months with this terrible drug called Zyprexa, so I'm heated... But I'll give mirtazapine a last chance: 2 more weeks, to the month mark.

See, I'm small and used to be thin... and I don't eat more on this drug, I seem to getting fatter just like that. Anyway, thanks for your input, it worked ;)

no problem Loulou, It may or it may not work out for you, but i'm glad that you're gonna give it 2 more weeks.... you have nothing to lose and everything to gain(irony unintended%). Well you'll have good results i'm positive. I know walking is the one of the best ways to lose weight, and maybe even consider jumping in one of these....<3

She's so fucking hot

I don't think the sauna will be necessary lol... i just liked the picture! You say in the OP that you started on 15mg for 7 days. did you end up dosing 7.5mg for these past 9or so days? you've been on it for 16 day's so your body still be adapting to it, but i reckon you're over the initial awkwardness, adapting stage or whatever. So at least if you give it another 2 weeks you'll know if it's right for you, or at least you'll have a better understanding it's effects. I have my own theory on what to expect the pro's and con's to be; for any AD or similar drug.

obviously some side effect like non existent sex drive is a big con, but for me, looking at the pro's is like the less you notice it the better its working. like i hardly noticed it doing anything. then after a while i got to understand the positives i was getting from it. It might of been like after 8 weeks and my gp asked how it was going, and for the first time i actually attempted to reflect and think about what effects the drug has been giving me. I hadn't really thought about it before because it's such a subtle process...noticing the positives.

For me, the fist time i thought of it. paused, scratched my chin and said ahhh haven't had a mood swing for a while. I felt my mood was more stable or static... in a good way, clear-headed like But yeah man,&woman?

hope it works out for you:)

PS: when i was 17-22 trying 4 or 5 different SSRI's thrown at me and i had a different attitude, a bad attitude looking back, and i only really gave one a decent run of 6 months, the others i remember being off within a week. BL is a good cause often GP's make quick and hard to understand decisions like prescribing the latest AD thats flooded the market. They're not all saints, and just a quick incident happened when i busted out of rehab and had to see a gp at night to get mirtazapine script cause the rehab nurses couldn't access my meds or what ever the fuck. so i see this GP for the first time at a clinic i had been to a couple of times before, I tell him i want mirtazapine, then he checks his computer and see's my history, that i have used, and have anxiety, prescribed benzo's etc. So in 5 mins he whips up one of these government rebate schemes we have where you get 12 sessions with a psychologist and 'medicare' rebates $80 bucks of each session. so you could see one for free essentially, if you find one that charges $80 for however long. so this young GP takes 5mis to produce this pretty serious document. So I see my regular doc and told him what happened and he said that he would have needed half an hour to do it. when i told him that this doctor had done it in 5 mins + first ever visit, he said that he basically just gave himself, cheated himself to $160. so every time a GP completes a permit for this rebate deal, $160 for a young n learnin GP8) getting back to my point though, time is money and there also seems to be 'easy' money to be made. it seems like it's a typical story so nothing new

Rant over lol, lost track there a bit, but the photo makes up for it=D... there needs to be a drool smilies on BL

Sublimit, how long did it take for your mirtazapine to start working? Ive takin it for a little over a month now (15mg) and even up to now it still makes me really groggy in the morning.. Ive started just 7.5 2 weeks ago, it still makes me sleepy as hell but still groggy in the morning, how long will the groggyness stop?

Also, how many mgs are you taking again? Im too lazy to check im sorry, very sleepy I took about 80mgs of oxycontin and its hard to find answers manually haha... all I can really do is listen to music and nod off, i really think I might pass out combined with remeron so sorry again for any misspellings, mistakes etc. :|
