mind conditioning

ok, disclaimer, I'm high right now so I apologize in advance

I've noticed that I can condition my mind beforehand to enhance my trip. For example. I've been playing through the PC version of Final Fantasy 8 lately, and after a few days of that, if I trip on something.. my trip will have an FF8 theme. Or if I'm playing Any other game for a long period of time leading up to a trip, the whole world will look like the game I've been playing.

Another example, I used to look at this picture a lot just because it's so pixelated and goofy looking. I used it as a background. One time I tripped, the whole world was animated like this. And then I'd get on my computer, alt tab to a game or something, and the game would be animated in the same style.

Does anyone else sort of condition yourself before tripping? Like drill something into your head so you see it when you trip?

I was able to help shape the vast majority of my psychedelic trips through the power of my own mind.

The drugs more suitable to user input which effects the visuals, etc, for me, were:

ketamine
mushrooms
MDA
MDMA
LSD

I think a great deal of this has to do with the "spiritual" nature of these chemicals.

mind conditioning is the essence of philosophy. sometimes i think it was made for using in conjunction with the suggestibility of the psychedelic mindstate =D

The condition I attempt to instill is an absence of any external stimuli that could become "mind chatter". I try to remove myself from media for at least 24 hrs before I trip.

j00sh, i think if you heightened your dosages, you may find that those "conditions" are penetrated completely.

Though I still understand what you're saying. It's like the debris in our heads gets restructured by the psychedelic into a way to communicate with you. Once, when working on music all day before a trip, one of the riffs seemed to be manipulated into the mushroom's voice/signal fusing to my brain. Another time I spent the day reading the The Gunslinger/Dark Tower, and yes, I used the password "19" :D and the mushroom then relayed to me secrets of death. That's part of the mushroom's wit, I suppose. Any symbol, no matter how ridiculous, can be an aperture into endless meaning.

FF8, you say? I'd be afraid I'd find myself actualizing a "Guardian Force" to completely obliterate me haha.

it depends on the level of understanding one has of one's condition(ing). nearing the edge of said capability (directly related to ones capacity for handling anxiety), the ideas become increasingly distorted/ no longer directly accessible. much akin to Freuds dream work mechanisms of displacement and condensation. the conditioning is however never penetrated. on the contrary, it becomes opaque. however, as this opacity becomes denser and denser the ego-defence mechanisms mentioned earlier become overwhelmed, and the anxiety breaks into the ego beyond its capacity to handle it. ego-death/the void ensues... only at this point does ones conditio break.

very true. any symbol (as distinguished from 'sign') by virtue of being a symbol is infinitly meaningful. its finitude is arbitrary.

sometimes thats scary i was on dxm and played mgs3 snake eater and had a crazy trip for like 3 hours i ran around one area hiding from everything for fear i would get caught and die like for real i thought i was snake.

I played super mario bros before tripping. Then I hit my head in the ceiling because I was convinced it would turn into money or mushrooms, but all I got was a sore head.

(well no, not really)

^^^^^^^^^ROFL. lolz!

I try to do certain things to condition my mind before a trip, it can mean just looking at positive things that don't bum you out and will help you later on when you think about it. Also, I find that some physical activity the day before I trip helps me get my mind in shape and allows me to handle myself and have an all around better time, could be from the endorphins produced when exercising or something.

i cannot begin to imagine the psychedelic horror stories ensueing should you play some other computer games =D

Sure, though I feel that the conditioning implied in the original post is not our ingrained lifetime conditioning, but simply a more casual short-term conditioning of building up the residue of the external stimuli of a few days past. By penetrating the short term conditioning, I think I mean what you said of "the ideas become increasingly distorted/ no longer directly accessible." There's simply a point at higher doses where you're going so deep that the recent history doesn't mean much -- it's just one curtain that you pass through and then its gone. Or its distorted and manipulated into something of entirely new meaning and experience -- as I was relating with the guitar riff or the 19 of the Dark Tower mythology in my last post. There's a distinction between the conditioning of mommy's milk and playing Final Fantasy for a week before a trip.

^but i wanna swim in the deep end mom! =D

just pointing out the larger continuum underlying the conditioning the OP referred to. there is actually no distinction between mommy's milk and having played ffs, apart from scale. the fundamental principles remain the same.
the grandest thing about life's deepest secrets is that you can shout them on any busy market square, yet nobody will hear past the opacity of the words. except for those that already discovered said secret for themselves. it guards itself. people actually don't want to know them, as they come with a certain price tag attached. thus the intrepid discoverer never really gains control over said secrecy. (remember when you tried to 'bear out' your first psychedelic experiences to non-trippers? and that's just about the entry fee)

^ Alright. Opacity. I can dig it, quite so.

You're right, the fundamental principles are the same. Thanks for drawing me out of a binary thought process limited by time and scale :D. And I encourage everyone to swim in the deep end. :)
